Two days later
Zayn POV
“What the FUCK is this?” Niall screams as he throws ‘The Sun’ newspaper down at the floor.
“What?” I ask.
“Look” Niall says, pointing at the newspaper. My jaw drops as I see the headline ‘Niall getting flirty with Little Mix’s Perrie.’ I look up at him and he has tears in his eyes.
“I just hate it when these papers print bullshit. Where have they even got this from? I said about four words to her and I definitely didn’t flirt with her or get her number.” Niall says, getting increasingly angry.
I’m speechless. Why would they say this? Would Niall do that? No of course he wouldn’t and he wouldn’t lie to me. I shake myself out my thoughts.
“Zayn?” Niall says, noticing how silent I’ve got.
“That’s messed up.” I say, managing to get a few words out of my mouth.
Perrie POV
Why would they print something like this?
My mum called me up as soon she saw, demanding answers. I obviously told her it was rubbish but we’re new to fame and we haven’t had many articles written about us yet.
But Niall? What? We barely said four words to each other.
Oh shit! What if Zayn sees? What will he think? I don’t want him thinking I’m a slut who flirts with everyone when he doesn’t even know me that well. I guess I have to talk to him.
One week later.
Zayn POV
I can’t wait to perform on that X Factor stage again. We’re going to be performing the new single, Gotta Be You, and I’m so excited. I’m kind of excited to see Perrie aswell. But I’m worried because I’ve only met her once and there are already stories about her and Niall. If she does like him I don’t want to get in the way.
As we finally pull up to the studios I jump out with Harry, Niall and Liam behind me. Louis is coming a bit later because he is spending the day with Eleanor. They’ve been going out for a few weeks and they’re really cute. Harry has been a bit down losing his best friend to a girl but he’ll be fine, he’s been flirting a bit with Caroline Flack.
We make our way into the rehearsal studios and the first people we see are the Little Mix girls.
“Hey girls!” Liam shouts. The girls turn around and I stop breathing for a minute when I see Perrie’s beautiful smile. Niall nudges me forward to hug Perrie. Does he know I like her? I open my arms for a hug anyway and she hugs me back. I breathe in the smell of her hair before we break apart. I smile at the ground as she turns to the girls and introduces us to them. As me and Liam turn around to introduce Jesy and Leigh-Anne to Niall and Harry we notice that they’ve disappeared. What is it with Harry disappearing every time Jade is around? I’ll ask him later.
“Is Niall okay?” Perrie asks me. Obviously she’s interested in him and not me.
Perrie POV
“Is Niall okay?” I ask, wondering weather he is ignoring me because of that story in The Sun. I didn’t want it to be awkward between us but I definitely didn’t want to go out with him. I want Zayn.
“Mhmm I think so.” Zayn replies, looking down at the floor. Was he angry with me?
“You know that story was rubbish right? It is all lies. Me and Niall weren’t flirting.” I say, trying to reassure him.
“Yeh, I know but it’s fine if you want to.” Zayn replies I lose the ability to breathe for a second. That is the biggest rejection I’ve ever got. “Well, we have to go and rehearse now but we’ll see you later.” Zayn said as he walked off, Liam following him after finishing his conversation with Jade, Jesy and Leigh-Anne.
After the show
“Wow you guys were so great!” Jade said as we run over to the boys after their performance.
“Thank you!” they all say in unison. “Congratulations on getting through, we knew you would,” Louis says smiling.
I can see Harry out of the corner of my eye kissing Caroline and I look over to Jade. I still didn’t know what was going on with Jade and Harry and why they keep avoiding each other but I saw Jade is getting upset.
“We’ve got to go. See you later” I say to the boys as I drag Jade by her hand into the girls’ toilets.
“Jade, what’s going on?” I ask, “and don’t say nothing because I know something is wrong. You’re behaving really strange whenever you see him and now you look like you’re about to cry.”
“No it’s just we used to be friends and now we’re not. We liked each other and went on a couple of dates but weren’t boyfriend and girlfriend. Then I think he liked me more than I liked him and I wanted to slow down and now we don’t speak,” Jade explains, looking more and more upset.
“Aw Jadey I’m sorry. Well obviously you do like him, maybe more than you thought.”
“Yeah probably but he’s moved on with Caroline now,” Jade says as I bring her into a close hug.
We make our way to the Xtra Factor room where Caroline and Olly interview us. We are interviewed for about 5 minutes and Jade hasn’t said a thing until Olly asks, “So Jade, who is your favourite One Direction boy?”
“Umm,” Jade says awkwardly.
I interject, “We like all of them. We’ve met them all and their really nice boys so yeah, all of them.” Jade smiles at me, looking grateful that I saved her.
“Okay thank you girls,” Olly says. Then he turns to look at the camera and says, “Now join us after the break where we’ll be talking to One Direction.”
We make our way back to our little dressing room and I flick the TV onto ITV2 so we can watch the boys’ interview.
Caroline asks, “So Zayn what do you think of Little Mix?”
“Yeah they’re great,” Zayn says.
“Yeah they’re quite like girl versions of us,” Niall says.
“Zayn, do you have a favourite in Little Mix?” Olly asked. Why was he asking Zayn all the questions about us? Surely if he believed the papers he would ask Niall?
“Umm,” Zayn says awkwardly.
“Perrie is his favourite,” Harry says, interjecting.
What?! My heart practically jumps out as I turn to the girls. Did I hear right? Harry must be lying Zayn definitely doesn’t like me. But he has turned all red.
