A WITCHES GARDEN ; CHAPTER 11

"Oh... Lady Hitchwell..?"

"Please just call me Lily!" she said with a bright smile.

I stepped back a bit and glanced at the two men behind. "Urm... Lily, why are you so excited to meet me?"

"How could I not be?! After seeing the way you acted at that tavern I just knew you had a kind and blessed soul. I've wanted to be your friend ever since!"

Roye watched with his usual cold glare as Laurent looked bemused by the sight.

"You seem to bewitch every person around you," Laurent said smugly.

For a second my body froze. I let out a laugh though it ended up sounding stiff and awkward.

"You really do have a unique way with words, Your Highness."

Roye definitely noticed my strange acting as his eyes stayed glued on me. Like he was inspecting my every move.

I backed away from Lily's grip. "Ahhh-actually, I've been feeling a little tired for a while and it's awfully late so I think I'll just go home."

"I'll find my brother and go," I said, running off without giving any of them a moment to reply.

###

The tea tasted awfully sweet. Somehow my plans of staying out of the main characters way wasn't going the way I'd expected, at all. I was stuck in yet another predicament.

I had been out in town, planning to buy some flowers that I'd be able to decorate my garden with. Only for Lily to appear out of nowhere with a gleeful smile. Before I could've ran off she had already pulled me into a sweets store. While the sweets were nice and so was the tea, it all still felt too sweet. My mind tried to focus on everything else so the severity of the situation wouldn't hit me.

Lily's sweet voice broke me out of my thoughts. "--etta, Lady Elietta?"

"Hm! Oh.. what?" I tried to smile.

"Oh... it's nothing. It's just..." She paused. "You don't look so well. Am I perhaps boring you?"

Her lower lip quivered and doe eyes stayed on her half eaten cake.

I couldn't handle it, she looked too cute. The novel really wasn't kidding about Lily's natural charm.

I placed my hand on hers and gave her a smile, though I could tell that it must've looked a bit awkward.

"No, no! I'm just a bit sick, I was supposed to buy some herbs and then go home right after but then you came along and..."

Her eyes widened and looked as if they were coated in tears. "So I forced you out while you weren't feeling well? Oh goodness me! I am so sorry. How could I ever-"

"But it's alright now!" I cut in, hoping she wouldn't burst into tears. "I feel a lot better thanks to the tea, I'm probably not even sick anymore. So don't feel bad!"

She rubbed her eyes and looked up at me. "Really...?"

I let out a laugh in hopes of easing her worries. "Yes of course! Why would I lie?"
