Your hurried footsteps echo throughout the empty night.
It was time.
You hope you're ready.
You know you must be ready.
You have to be ready.
deep breaths.
Deep breaths.
What was that?
No. Focus. You have to focus.
You have to focus on this.. Interview.
You have to know what to say.
You must.
You have to.
You can't fuck this up now.
You got this far.
It's near. It's right there.
Heading through the back, you look around for a while before locating what seems to be the backroom door-
Well, it was the only door around there. Oh well.
You head inside seeing..
The cashier?
He's sitting behind a table on a seat.
If you'd peeked inside through the front earlier, you'd have noticed he was on his break.
"Take a seat." He speaks.
That voice.
That's the voice from the telephone.
What? He's also the manager of this place.
I mean.. It does make sense. He's the only person around.
Taking a seat on the chair infront of the table, you patiently wait.
"Alright, are you ready?" He asks, turning his chair towards you.
You fix your seat as well, looking back to him and making direct eye contact.
"Yes sir."
..
"Alright, name, age and why are you here?"
The first question.
You respond accordingly.
"My name is (insert name here), I am (insert age here.) I called about the job because I was simply looking for a job. Maybe something I could spend time on. I can do alternate shifts, and I have lots of free time."
"Alright, good enough."
"What?"
"That's all. You're in." He stands up, opening a closet.
What kind of place was this?
You shouldn't really ask. What's good is that you got your job.
"Minimum wage. Remember. (insert amount here.) And also, pick your size. You can wear anything, just wear the cap and a nametag. I'll write you one later." He motions toward a bunch of caps.
"Thank you." You lightly bow, heading forward and finding one your size and fitting it on, before trying to place it back-
"You don't have to place it here. Keep it." He cuts you off, holding your arm and pulling it back to yourself.
You thank him again, before heading off.
On the way back home..
You feel joy. After all this time. You've been waiting for so long.
You're still dumbfounded by that.. He's the manager and the cashier? Must be why they're understaffed..
...
You get back to your room.
You close the door and immediately jump into bed, giggling and laughing to yourself.
Your dad does not get a chance to ruin the fun.
You didn't even come across him. He's probably already asleep.
You go to sleep.
You'll check in again tomorrow.
Good night.
