(note: if the writing seems different, it's because I didnt work on this for a long time. classes, amirite..?)
You open your eyes from your "hour long nap."
What time was it? Checking your digital clock, it was 8 pm. You've gotta move to your shift in about an hour. Well, looks like you'll be seeing him again.
Taking a deep breath, you pick up the remains of your leftov... ers.
Your leftover dishes are gone? Where'd they go? Did you sleepwalk or something..?
But you still vividly remember eating. Wonder what happened there.
Getting up, you get change back into your uniform and head out your door, looking around and noticing immediately noticing...
... The deafening silence.
You did not hear the grumbling of your father.
Neither was there the static and chaos of the TV.
Peeking into the living room, you notice that your father still wasn't around. Where was he? There were no beer bottles either.
What the fuck is going on?
Well you were relieved, but... Confused.
What's going on. Where is he. Where did he go?
You check the refrigerator immediately. His beer was still there.
You run across the hallway and open the bathroom expecting him to have slept in the tub.
He.. He wasn't there either.
You run back into the hallway and look for one of his portraits. It was still there. What.
He's gone.
He's.. He's just gone.
........
You can't say you're not happy.
You step out the back door and into the yard. The sounds of crickets slowly turned quieter as your thoughts drowned everything out.
He wasn't there either. You slam the door and head back inside only to miss..
Shuffling from behind the trees.
You step out the front door again, the crickets returning as you slowly and quietly walk along the road following nothing but the streetlights and the distant road.
Not quite sure how you feel about your father disappearing.
It feels like a chunk of your life disappeared, but should you even be concerned?
He was an asshole.
He was the worst.
...
Everything is looking up now.
A change of pace.
You wanted this.
He left.
Its what you always wanted.
...
You had plenty of time to think to yourself.
The store was still a good distance away.
The cold breeze brushed along.
Just you, you, you and you.
You were now leading your own life.
Old feelings of loathe and hate.
All gone.
This was what you've wanted.
And now it's granted.
One question still lies in the back of your head.
..... Now what?
You know over time this new... Life of yours will still become monotonous.
You know it will all repeat everyday.
Every single day.
Were you really in lead of your own life?
Or was this your only choice?
Just wait.
Maybe it'll change.
Maybe it'll get better eventually.
Soon.
But not now.
You still have a long way to walk.
Although it is foggy, you know eventually something will come.
Perhaps someone.
Someone...
To change it all.
You don't know. Perhaps that someone is already here.
Heh.
............
Right, you were heading back to the store.
At just about 8:45, you arrive in time to still be able to help before switching out for the shift.
The cashier gives you nothing but a glance as you enter. Not even a wave? A hello? Aw.
Seems almost a little disappointing.
Blegh. Why are you getting distracted by the small things?
Get back to it.
You give him a wave, despite getting nothing in return. Even a smile!
Heading straight into the cabinets and isles, you start checking if anything was disorganized.
Everything looks...
The exact same as it did the first time you fixed it.
What the hell?
It couldn't be the same, right..?
You get back to lifting the cabinets and fixing their positions, eventually to organizing the contents upon their shelves.
You could still sniff out the faint smell of iron.
Must be rust.
You return to organizing and properly setting the shelves, eventually grabbing the mop, and beginning to mop the floor.
Again was there a lack of dust. It was still relatively clean too.
After not much mopping, you check back around once again- just in time for the timer to start beeping. Phew.
Well. You just hear his voice from over the counter.
"Your turn."
You two switch out again. Of course, even if he didn't remind you, you'd know it was your turn to switch. You were paying lots of attention.
Now, were you going to clean this place everyday?
Maybe you'll get used to cleaning it eventually. Maybe you won't get tired of it. Ever.
Now you wait.
Behind the counter, whilst the cashier heads outside to.. Smoke, probably.
However, instead he heads out- the revving of a car audible from outside leaving you all alone, waiting.
Would there even be any customers today either?
You hoped there would be one.
It was just you, yourself, and the whirring of the lights.
...
Back to... Waiting.
