The two men lied awake all night, just staring at the ceiling.
Both had their own reasons for their insomnia and neither knew the other was awake, due to their being on opposite sides of the palace from each other.
The Shogun was wide awake in bed, a woman sleeping heavily next to him. Sure, she might have thought of their night as satisfying, but Kid was absolutely restless.
Hawkins had lied to him. A geisha had done nothing to stop the thoughts of Trafalgar Law from plaguing his mind.
Without a word the Shogun removed himself from his bed, grabbed his favorite pipe and a few bottles of sake, then walked out onto his room's balcony, feeling the need for some fresh air.
The subject of his thoughts lay awake as well, his own thoughts racing and mind spinning.
That Monet... Just who was she?
The familiarity Law felt when they spoke was unnerving, though he was sure they had never met before.
After a few minutes of deliberation, Law stood from his bed and quietly made his way out of the room he shared with Chopper in the medical wing, making sure not to wake the child or his master who rested in the next room over.
Walking through the palace halls, the samurai quickly located Empress Bonney's private chambers and knocked on his friend's door.
After a few minutes, an exhausted and disheveled looking man with an X shaped scar on his chin opened the door and just stared at Law for a moment before groaning and running a hand though his orange hair.
"My lady... You have a visitor." He yawned, then stumbled back inside as Bonney took his place, her hair just as messy as her advisor's and her sleeping kimono askew.
"Eh? Whuddya want, Law? It's like... two o'clock in the morning..." The Empress yawned, then perked up as she thought of something. "Did you and Kid finally have se-"
"No, nothing like that." Law cut her off with a sigh, rolling his eyes good naturedly. Bonney pouted. "Damn. And I wanted details too..."
Law just smiled lightly, then shook his head and returned to seriousness. "There is a woman I met yesterday by the name of Monet. I think she was one of the banquet guests. You wouldn't happen to know who she is, would you?" He asked.
Bonney leaned against her room's doorframe and bit her lip in thought.
"Monet, huh?" The Empress muttered, crossing her arms. "Sorry, but I have no idea. What's she look like?"
Law thought for a moment. "A bit taller than you. Sort of has a bird-like face. Her hair is really green and wavy."
Bonney raised an eyebrow. "Green hair? No, doesn't ring a bell. Perhaps she's related to Luffy's samurai, Zoro. He has green hair."
The raven haired man sighed and rubbed his eyes. Prince Luffy had left the palace several days ago. There was no way he would be able to ask the boy about Monet.
"Oh well." He muttered, then smiled tiredly down at his friend. "Thank you for your help anyway, Bonney. Have a good night."
The Empress yawned once more and nodded, her eyelids already drooping again as she headed back into her room.
The samurai himself yawned as he decided to retire once more and began walking back to the medical wing.
As he walked, he passed the Shogun's chamber doors as they were slowly creeping open.
Law stopped mid-step and his surprised wide eyes locked onto half lidded golden ones.
The Shogun stumbled out of his chambers clumsily in only a pair of pants with what appeared to be an empty bottle of sake in his hand. His golden eyes were locked onto Law's grey ones, but they were slightly unfocused.
Eustass-ya, Law noted, was most certainly drunk.
"Trafalgar..." Kid drawled out lowly. "Why the fuck're you here...?"
Law put on a tight lipped smirk. "It's nice to see you too, Eustass-ya. I was actually just heading back to my room. You should go back to bed as well." The samurai really did not want to deal with an intoxicated Eustass Kid at the moment. He had too much on his mind to do so.
Kid either didn't hear the tattooed male, or didn't listen. The redhead stumbled forward until he was only a foot away from Law.
"You..." He growled, poking Law in the chest with a sharp nail. "Hawkins lied to me... That whore did nothing... Why the fuck won't you get out of my head...?"
Law's smirk had long since faded and now he furrowed his brows at the slightly taller man. Perhaps the Shogun was further gone than he had thought...
"Eustass-ya, I really think it would be wise for you to return to your room. If you need help you can lean on me. Come on."
When the samurai tried to remove the bottle from Kid's hand, the Shogun snarled and grabbed a fistful of Law's shirt.
"I don't need any damn help!" He snarled, pulling Law's face closer to his.
The caramel skinned man's eyes flew open wide and he stared up at Kid in shock for a moment, before scowling. "Eustass-ya, I must insist that you release me."
Again, Kid seemed to ignore him and just leaned in further.
"Why you...?" He mumbled, taking in the smaller man's features with drunken eyes.
An idea flashed through his head. It was a crazy idea, one he most definitely wouldn't have thought of had he been sober, but it was an idea none the less.
Law's scowl faltered for a moment as he watched an unknown emotion worm its way onto the Shogun's face.
"Eustass-ya-!"
Kid crashed his lips down onto those of the older man, successfully cutting him off.
Law's eyes widened at the sudden contact and for a moment, he didn't struggle; too stupified to do much of anything.
The moment passed and the samurai found himself trying to pull away from the Shogun's hungry lips.
"Stop it, Eustass-ya!" He growled, pushing the ruby haired man away. Law wiped his mouth and gave Kid a harsh and angry look, but the fluttering of his heart and the excited flip-flopping if his stomach betrayed him.
"You are intoxicated." The samurai continued harshly. "Your judgment is impaired. You hate me, so snap out of it!"
He then forcefully tore the sake bottle from Kid's hand and when the man tried to grab it back, Law just slapped him across the face and pushed the drunk man back through his chamber doors (where he collapsed into a snoring heap to be found the next morning by Killer).
With yet another sigh, Law returned to his room (once more careful not to wake Chopper or Hawkins) and lay down in bed.
Now he definitely wasn't going to get any sleep...
