"Hey, Caelen, where are you going?" I started running after him, thankful I'd decided to wear jeans and a t-shirt to the dance rather than a dress like my sisters suggested. I heard Vicky and Rosie thundering down the street after me, calling me back, but I kept going.
I raced round a corner just in time to see Caelen make the impossible jump over a 15 foot wall, but I didn't slow down. I ran until I was a few feet from the wall then I jumped. I knew it was hopeless, I was never going to make it. I felt myself being lifted into the air, up over the wall, touching down lightly on the other side. I didn't take time to marvel at what I'd just done, there was time for that later.
I'd landed behind a bush and, luckily, no-one had seen me yet. I peeked out as my sisters landed softly behind me.
"Why are we here? And who are they?" Rosie had poked her head out below me and was watching the 5 people in the middle of the square we'd appeared in, 2 men, 3 women. They were standing in a very tight circle with their hands thrust into the sky. The most extraordinary thing about this was that out of each of the people's up thrust hands was a beam of light , so powerful it would have light up the whole of England. The streams of light then joined together in a blast powerful enough to light up the whole of Europe! Striding towards them was...
"Caelen!" I ran towards him but he didn't seem to notice me.
"Hey, what do you think you're doing? Every mortal in London can see you! Stop it now!" Caelen started toward them, hands splayed, a look of deep concentration on his face which was shortly taken over by one of bewilderment. "Hey, how are you doing that?" A bit of fear crept into his voice and he looked scared. "No-one can do that, not even the Grand Mage himself." My sisters, who I had forgotten about until now, ran out from their cover and tried to pull me back.
"Come on, Roxie, this is none of our business!" Victoria pleaded with me, fear in her eyes. But I couldn't leave, not now, not when a person I'd known all my life was involved in something like this.
"No" I barely whispered, but Vicky understood that I had to stay.
"Well we're staying too!" Rosie proclaimed in a loud whisper. I turned back to the energy beam just as Caelen was flung back towards us. We barely had time to move out the way as his limp body flew past and landed in a heap of old sofa cushions. It could've been worse I suppose. I suddenly felt this uncontrollable anger burning inside me. NO-ONE HURTS CAELEN! I turned for a split second to see if Caelen was alright then I charged straight at the cluster of people in the middle of the deserted square. I had no battle plan, no idea how I was going to fight people like this, all I knew was that they had hurt Caelen and that wasn't allowed! I splayed my hands, like Caelen had done, and jumped, hoping I could land on one of the people or something. Instead I flew high above the people into the energy stream its self. I looked around me and started to panic. How am I flying? What is this stuff surrounding me? It felt alive as if it had a mind of its own and the people would only be able to hold it together for a couple more minutes then it would break free. I had no idea how I knew this, I just knew I was right and something had to be done before havoc was released on London.
