Avron laughs throatily, throwing his head back and his broad shoulders shaking; the truck beneath us shaking with him. I'm laughing as well, smiling at the joke while staring at the night sky from where I lay on the hood next to where Avron's sitting.
"Kara, ain't no way in hell did that happen," He chuckles out and looks at me with a smile that melts into his cheeks.
"It so did! Maddie and I were both witnesses!"
"Baby, Maddie would tell the cops you were with her if you needed an alibi."
He points out. "I do not believe that Jessica yelled 'Fuck my ass, daddy' in a busy Walmart parking lot at 12 am."
"Oh my god, what do I have to do to get you to believe me?" I ask, still smiling at him, as I am sitting up.
"Kiss me like you'll never see me again, mama," He says in his husky voice, leaning into me, his eyes focused on my lips, and his smile fading away to a small part. I close my eyes and push my head forward just enough to feel his lips....”

Avron and I walk down the sidewalk in comfortable silence, listening to Terra sing in a high voice off-key to the alphabet song.
The walk back home seems to talk longer than it actually must because what feels like an eternity later, but could've only been fifteen minutes, we arrive at the small blue cottage at the end of Maplewood Road.
It sits next to a field of flowers, Sunflowers, Daisies, and Wildflowers that go unnamed but beautiful nonetheless.
The cottage contains 2 bedrooms and a small bathroom, perfect for two people with a connected living room and kitchen. It's always been perfect for Terra and I, but I find myself worrying about Avrons reaction to the house. From what I remember, he'd always wanted a condo in the city, with windows that reach the skyline and to watch the sunsets and sunrises.
Avron looks around in my peripheral vision, seeing to spot the house we're inevitably heading towards. I can't measure his reaction besides a new emotion glinting in his dark eyes.
Soon we follow Terra up the old cement walkway and I pull my keys out of my backpack, then unlocking the door and pushed it wide open, inviting my kid and ex into the room, with my extended arm as my back presses against the warm painted yellow door. They follow my hand into the room and I turn on the lights, while closing the door behind me and putting my backpack on the side table. Avron looked around, his eyes dancing around the roomates photographs and furniture.
"Sorry for the mess" I mutter, embarrassed. " we weren't planning on having company today."
"It's alright, Kara" He says and turns his head to look at me with a smile, his hair moving with his head. "It's a very nice house, it fits you very well."
"Thanks Avron, but you can honestly tell me that it isn't messy."
"Never said it wasn't Kara, just glad you loosened up a bit since high school. You were such an organization freak," he looks around and chuckles, his locs swaying with the movement.
"I just didn't wanna lose any important papers! I did better than you and that's why!" I crossed my arms and pouted, butting my chin out a bit in defiance.
"We did the same Kara, you know that," He smiles, stealing my breath away with his perfect white smile and dark puffy lips. "But the place really does suit you; you have your bookshelves, your plants, your kitchen and your yellow door. Honestly, I didn't think you were serious about the yellow door thing." Avron chuckled again, looking at me as he leaned against the marble countertop in the kitchen.
"Terra and I painted it when we first moved in here a couple years back, right after the divorce with Terra's other mother. She likes yellow, too, and even similar shades. I did most of the work," I smile, looking down at my boots. "She's the most rambunctious kid I know, but damn if I don't love that sweet kid."
"She loves you too, I can tell. Terra looks at you like you lift the skies themselves." His soft, almost bashful comment brought my gaze back up to his sweet face. His jaw and cheeks are lined with a five o'clock shadow, bringing soft shade to his skin and bringing out his firm yet comforting eyes.
"Thanks, Avron," I smile. "Anyways enough about me and my personal life, what about you? Where've you been these past years? What do you work as?"
"Uh, let's see," He tilts his head back a bit, thinking for a moment. "I went to college for my bachelor's degree in business and financing, then I worked at a small law firm as an understudy and a financial advisor, then started a small business. When that grew, I quit the firm and started focusing on my business, and now I'm CEO of A.M.E transportation and production."
"Holy shit, dude, you really got your life together. How come you don't have a wife and kid, or girlfriend? There must be people lining up around the block waiting for a date with you!" I tease, though my stomach twists at the thought of him on a date with a random woman who only wants him for the money.
"Well, I didn't have time, I was stuck in the office 13 hours a day and ate maybe twice on a good day before working out 3 hours and working for a couple hours and only getting 5 hours or so of sleep."
My heart both hurt at his workaholic habits and lifted at his lack of suitors.
"I'm glad I don't have to have that cycle, I work maybe a couple hours out of the day and get $60,000 average income since a couple years ago."
"Now what kind of job is that? Because I might just quit for that." Avron says with a smile.
I smile back smugly. "I wrote a book and became a best selling author according to the New York Times." I cross my arms and hold my chin up, proud of my accomplishmnt.
"Good job, mama, I'm glad you did so well in life," He said earnestly, his warm smile softening up his face.
