(Longer One! Medieval AU, soon to be queen and rival prince, arranged marriage !!)

"King's in check! King is down!" The hoarse voices of my men cut through the humid fog that suffocated the battle field.

It was mid-July and battle had broken out once again spanning the 4 year duration of the war. As my father's only child, he wanted to keep me out of the field to protect the crown, but when he fell ill tensions between us and our rivaling kingdom only grew stronger. So at the age of 16 I began to lead my army into war and for the last 4 years battles have been breaking out on all boarders of Cilicia. Our once prosperous kingdom, bustling with merchants, traders, farmers and people of all social classes living freely and happily has now turned to a wasteland. People afraid to leave their homes, knights armored head to toe delivering food to the families, arrows flying over the walls and hitting roof tops. Though, the brave people of Cilicia held out hope, hope that their princess will bring these times to an end and return Cilicia back to it's previous glory.

I whipped my head around lowering my weapon, the iron of my armor clanking against the steel of my sword. My eyes cut through trees and sparring soldiers to see two heavily armored men dragging someone between them. The man was decorated in a once red gown now tainted by mud and what I assumed was his own blood. He hung his head, letting it jerk back and forth with the heavy footing of my men. I scanned the wooded battle field to see that my army had also completely wiped out the rebel force, bodies adorned in useless armor as they lay there lifeless. I shoved the sword into the ground, now soft with the blood of the innocent.

"Bring him to the edge of the wood!" I ordered my men, once I saw them nod in understanding I pivoted on my heel and began marching towards the edge of the woods. My armor clanked and clashing as I stepped over bodies and swords. The warm humid air forced more sweat out of my pores and onto my forehead, I pulled my helmet off letting my hair fall down onto my neck. My eyes landed on archers stationed father out into the open field "We have your king, fire and we will serve you his head!" I yelled, my voice gravelly and stern. The archers gazes shifted behind me to see their king being dragged like roadkill, they lowered their bows.

When I reached the edge of the wood, more of my men surrounded me as I turned back to the rival king being thrown to the mud at my feet. I stared at him, a king once so brazen to threaten the security of my kingdom, my people, now brought to his hands and knees covered in the mud mixed with the blood of his people, innocent people. His breaths were shaken and quick, in disbelief and defeat.

"Why have you done this Your Highness?" I asked, my voice dull and tired "Why have you sacrificed the lives of the innocent to feed into your ego?" He didn't answer. I tilted my head, crouching down to look at him, "You put a halt on prosperous economies, tore men away from families on both sides all because you wanted more land..." I spat "You are a disgusting, sad excuse for a king," I glanced over at one of my soldiers, reaching out and beckoning for his weapon, he handed it over with no hesitation. I stood up, raising the sword above my head "I will be doing your people a favor."

"Your Majesty wait!" An unfamiliar voice sounded, my head shot up and quickly scanned the area to see a man covered in bloodied armor being led towards me by one my soldiers. I looked back at the king to see him raise him head for the first time, when he saw the man his face fell, "Leo! My son!". My eyes grew wide as I realized who this was.

Leonardo Remountsif, the rival king's only son.

I stared at him in disbelief as they approached me, only for him to be thrown down next to his father. Leonardo looked up at me, covered in the same mud as his father, his posture was low with defeat. "Your Royal Highness, Princess of Cilicia," He hung his head and shook it, attempted to remove his helmet without the assistance of his tied arms. I noticed his struggle and motioned for one of my men to help him. My soldier listened and remove his helmet, allowing Leonardo's chocolate hair to fall down over his eyes. He whipped his head back removing the loose hairs from his face, though some strands soaked with sweat still stubbornly remained. "We-" he bit his tongue, glancing over at his father who was giving him a look "I," he corrected himself. "I surrender."

I cocked my head to the side, raising an eyebrow and pressing my tongue against my teeth, awaiting the same statement from the king. Nothing, he just hung his head once more, content with the words of his son.

I scoffed lowering the sword onto my shoulder, "You can't even swallow your pride long enough to admit defeat?". My eyes tore through the mucky gold that he adorned to see him for what he was, a coward. I glanced back to the prince to see him glaring at me through his eyelids, his head not fully tilted to me. He, like his father, still held onto a sense of pride even while knelt before me. And while his words pleaded submission, his gaze resembled that of a lion separated from his prey still hellbent on achieving domination.

In contrast to his father though, Leonardo was blessed with beauty, it was unclear how deep the beauty reached but it was certainly surface level. His warm beige skin was tarnished with dirt and blood. The browns strands of his hair just barely cover his thick yet trimmed eyebrows that sat above his slender eyes. His nose was slightly up-turnt and rounded sat at the end of its concave bridge and his lips were thin with the slightest plump to them. If he had not have been slaughtering my men like animals, I would have maybe been attracted to him

The prince bit his tongue, groaning as he bent over. I looked down to where he was gripping his stomach, blood was seeping through his hands.

He was bleeding, and a lot...

If it were up to me I'd leave him and his scumbag father to die, but it wasn't.

I so deeply wished I had come across him in the heat of war, not only so I could've pierced his heart with no knowledge of his identity, but because of my father's dying wish.

"My daughter, if you are to defeat King Luca, you must make union with the heir to his throne and ensure a secure future for the people of Cilicia."

"Not if father, when."

I promised him.

"Your Royal Highness, Prince of Okura, you're bleeding." I stated

He scoffed "I would never have guessed princess." His address of me was informal, coming out of his mouth like something sour. "My father would rather be staked through the heart than to submit to you-agh." He groaned, giving into his pain "So accept my surrender, we may never be fond of you but I have the gull to admit it."

No matter how long I had lead men through battle it never got easier to see them in pain, on either side. I shut my eyes and let in a deep breathing, sighing as it came out. I opened them back to see the prince glaring at me once more, biting his tongue.

"We have captured your king!" I shouted, my voice echo throughout the battlefield "And your prince has admitted defeat!" I turned and scanned the battlefield to see rival men coming out of hiding "Cease fire! Any resistance and we will tear your palace apart stone by stone!" The men slowly, at the pace of cattle, dropped their weapons and knelt.

"I had no interest in taking over your kingdom, but over the last 4 devastating years you have left me no choice." I announced turning back towards the 'king' "I care not to punish your people for your short comings, they are innocent in all of this. I wish to send the surviving men home to their families and give the fallen men proper burials. I wish to not only bring Cilicia back to it's original glory, but by default bring Okura to one too. I will not harm you, set aside my own wants, and I will not harm your people. I am not like you," I crouched down and placed a finger under the king's chin, pulling him up to face me, "nor will I ever be." I whispered staring into the lids of his closed eyes. "As for you," I turned to the prince, his deep black eyes challenged my own "as much as this pains me, in order to restore faith in the bond between our kingdoms, we must-"

"Wed." He cut me off with a low growl "You and I must wed."
