PRESENT TIME

Miguel POV

I woke up because of the pain in my chest. I couldn't understand why I suddenly felt this way. In fact, this was the first time I've ever felt something like this in my chest. It felt like being poked with needles, so even though I was in a deep sleep, it still managed to disturb me.

Instead of thinking about it, I just reminded myself that it was Monday and I needed to get ready.

I stood up from my soft bed and glanced at my wall clock.

5:48 a.m.

I yawned while stretching both my arms and stared at the birds outside the closed glass window of my room. They were playing with the window, and it seemed like they were pecking at something there. So, I immediately stood up and carefully walked toward the window.

"How are you being, birds, my sweeties?" I whispered while holding the glass window, which was tinted, so I knew they couldn't see me from the outside.

KRINGGGGG!!!!!!

I was startled when my phone suddenly rang, causing me to accidentally knock the window's glass. When I glanced back, the birds were gone. I let the phone ring and opened the window instead.

I closed my eyes as a wave of fresh air touched my face. It felt familiar, like I've experienced this before, and in fact, this was the only time again that I felt the breeze. When I opened my eyes, I was once again amazed by what I saw.

The sun was starting to rise, and it was a sign that I needed to go down to the kitchen since everyone was already there.

I first went to the lavatory and poured cold water on my face. I started to smile after feeling the freshness on my face. This was truly my favorite thing to do in the morning.

"How's your sleep, son?" Dad greeted me, even before I could sit down at the table.

I watched them all chewing, and even Manang was already at the dining table. We didn't need to wake Manang up anymore; we wanted to get used to waking up on our own. I don't know, but that was part of the changes I made after the accident.

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, savoring the presence of the people in front of me now. "Nothing special, cause it's always special for me. What I mean, Dad, is that it's always special because I always wake up knowing you are still here beside me," I said while still keeping my eyes closed.

That truly came from my heart and mind. That's how I always answer sincerely to Dad. I heard Dad laugh, so I opened my eyes.

"I dreamed something, Dad."

"What was that all about?"

"It's kind of weird because I can't remember everything. All I can remember is that in my dream, I woke up in my body and started to question myself 'why', like I'm asking myself, 'why do I have to wake up here?'"

"Kuya, you're acting weird again," Samantha suddenly cut in and turned to Dad. "Mom, Dad, Kuya Miguel has been acting weird since yesterday. He's repeating himself."

"Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha!!!" Dad's loud laugh echoed.

"Why's that so, Miguel?" Mom asked while eating.
