SEVEN YEARS AGO
It was the third day since Monique returned home, and the twelfth day of the young man's emotional suffering, which he was desperately trying to hide. The young woman remained lying on her Hello Kitty bed, hugging her favorite Hello Kitty teddy bear that was a gift from Liam. Aside from the teddy bear, she truly adored the Hello Kitty character.
Liam quickly prepared himself, arranging roses, a new guitar he had bought the previous day, and a song he had practiced while he wasn't by Monique's side. He was busy setting up a surprise for the woman he loved, confident that she would appreciate it. He was eager to create something special to bring joy to the person who mattered most to him.
"I don't want to undergo chemotherapy because I really can't handle it," Monique sadly said. This was what Liam walked in on, causing him to drop the roses he was holding. The new guitar that had been hanging on his back remained there as he softly began singing the song he had learned, as he moved closer to her. His emotions poured out for everyone in the room to witness.
"Ayaw ko sa ibaa, sa'yo ako ay hindi magsasawa... Ano man ang 'yong sabihinn," he sang as he came closer, his voice shaky with emotion. He wiped his cheeks like a child, his room nearly filled with tears.
"Giliw sa piling mo, ako ay masaya..." Once he was near her, he stopped singing, took her hands in his, and kissed them, then gently placed his forehead against hers.
The voice of the young man was barely understandable as he sang, his eyes gazing at the girl's sad eyes. He was infected by the sadness in Liam's eyes.
Araw-gabiiiiii,, Nalalasing sa tuwa Kapag kapiling kaaa Araw-gabi tayong dalawaaa..
"Liam," the emotional voice of the young woman filled the young man's ears, and he kept staring at her. When tears welled up in his eyes, he collapsed into her arms, while the girl remained lying down, slowly losing her strength. "You promised me that you wouldn't cry, my love." The girl's voice was shaky, reminding him of something he hadn't done. Even though she was struggling, she lifted his head and wiped away the tears from his cheeks. "Don't ever do this again, is that clear?" Despite her emotions, the girl showed a sweet smile to the young man.
"You know I can't do that, Monique... I'm begging you," the young man stammered again, holding her hands and rubbing them against his cheek, savoring the presence of the one person most important to him.
"I'm begging you, please get better and get strong, because I can't handle this... Please, Monique!" He couldn't hold back his sobs in front of her, and he collapsed once again into Monique's arms, pouring out all his pain.
"Are those roses for me?" the girl asked, hoping to get a response from him and perhaps calm his crying. But she was disappointed; she didn't get the answer she was hoping for because the young man kept crying, his body seemingly growing weak as he stayed collapsed in her arms. "Liam." Michael approached his younger brother, placing a hand on his shoulders and trying to calm him down, but that, too, was in vain.
"My Monique, I beg you... Don't leave us, I can't handle it, my love... Please..." The young man couldn't hold back any longer, pouring out all his feelings at that moment, hoping that his pleas would heal the girl.
"Son, Liam... Calm down..." the mother tried to help, but the young man immediately lifted his gaze to the girl. His eyes, full of tears, begged her. He no longer cared how weak he appeared, because it was the truth-he was weak when it came to Monique, as she was his strength that was slowly fading away.
"I want to smell the roses you bought for me." The girl gently convinced him, holding his cheek and wiping it with her hands. "Are those for me, Liam?" The young man immediately nodded, like a child who hadn't been given candy and was ready to cry out in disappointment.
He immediately stood up, sobbing, as he kneeled on the floor. One by one, he picked up the roses that had fallen from his hands earlier, holding onto the three bunches of roses while wiping his cheek with his arm. He looked like a child in his actions, and it no longer mattered to him. He walked over to where Monique was lying and, removing the new guitar from his back, which he had bought for her, the only girl in his life...
"Arawwww-gabi,,, nasa isip k-kaa-ka."
He slowly uttered the lyrics of the song, unable to follow the tone he had practiced because his sobbing overtook him.
"Napapanaginip ka, kahit san mag-punta.... Arawwww-gabiii, nalalasing sa tuwa kapag kapiling kaaa... Araw-gabi, tayong dalawaaa ..."
He sang it full of emotion, and even though the woman tried to fight her rising emotions, she couldn't hold back. Meanwhile, Michael continued to watch the woman, who was suffering deeply yet still trying to smile.
When he finally got closer to the girl, he bowed his head before handing the three bunches of roses to Monique, who now wore a smile on her lips. Although her eyes were sad, her lips revealed an impending joy because of what the young man had done for her.
"Thank you, Liam."
The young man bowed again and kissed her forehead. He immediately wiped away the tears that fell on his face and without hesitation, embraced his beloved who was lying down.
