There was something wrong with him, Jin knew. He'd always had this weird view about himself.
Genuinely, he thought he was the best. There was nobody better-looking than him, nobody who sang better, nobody who was better. And yet, there was. He wasn't stupid, he knew he lacked in many areas.
But it was this paradox that drove him insane. He spent long hours just debating with himself about this. He imagined himself being the best, but he knew that he wouldn't get that. He got jealous when someone else got praised for something he also tried hard at, but that was only because he also wanted recognition.
He just wanted some attention at times.
But thinking like this was probably a bad thing, so he just kept it hidden. There were some kinds of thoughts that society liked to pretend were unacceptable, even if they were natural, and did happen.
Jin wouldn't admit to it.

The vocal trainer seemed to pause on Jungkook.
"Jungkook, can I say something?"
Jungkook nodded. "Of course, hyung. Go ahead."
"Your voice is becoming more beautiful every day. It's easy to see how hard you work. Your higher range doesn't have any strain at all. I can hear the emotions that you're portraying and it sounds great."
Jungkook's face was flushed with all the compliments. He nodded again, and his voice was wobbly when he thanked the teacher.
"And now... Jin."
Jin held his breath. He longed for the same praise that Jungkook had gotten.
"Jin, you are a bit more in tune now, that's good. But, there is a lot of work that needs to be done. Your voice is weak. That's okay! Just make sure you really engage your diaphragm when you sing, and everything should start sounding better soon," he said. There was an encouraging smile on his face.
Jin knew he meant well, but he just saw red. He only nodded once and the teacher moved on. In his head, thoughts swirled around. He'd been pushed off his pedestal once again.
There was Jungkook, who was so consistent and hard-working. His voice was getting better and better every day. And here was Jin, who arguably worked much harder and was supposed to be better, but he still sounded like he had a frog in his throat. His voice was getting worse and worse every day.
He tried to calm himself down. The teacher hadn't said that! Jin was just making things up.
No, but that's what he'd meant, he knew. Jin could tell.
Taehyung's gentle shove brought him back to the real world.
"Thinking about something?" he asked.
Jin shrugged. He hadn't heard what the teacher had said to him, but it was probably mindless praise. That's what the teacher did to everyone, except Jin. Probably. That's what Jin told himself.
"Hyung, don't get carried away with your thinking," Jungkook said. "Focus on something else. Like, my dashing good looks."
Jin scowled. Great. So Jungkook was good-looking too. What was he not able to do?
Then, he mentally slapped himself. Good heavens, why was he so envious of Jungkook anyway? This was Jungkook, the kid that he'd practically raised. He should be proud of his skills and looks. Jin should win the "Worst Hyung of the Year" award with the way he was acting. He was so rude.
