- So let me get that straight - began Myth after she has heard the story. - You used to live in a jungle but people shot you in your leg and transported you to Jump City. You landed in an abusive circus with animals and received an ability to speak because you weren't bringing the circus enough money. The circus got exposed for abusing animals and shortly after got shut down with the owner being arrested and put in jail and... you basically became homeless? - asked the girl and took a breath.
- I found a territory that I considered my own but it seems like I have to share it, now - Mercury took a look at the grave.
- Oh... you're right - Myth agreed awkwardly. - We can't really move him, if you understand me - she looked back up at the animal.
- I do - she spoke up.
Myth was sitting next to Mercury and thinking of the whole situation that has occured. It didn't make sense to her that a huge predator with an ability to speak and a terrible past is not going to harm her. She was curious if it's just the fact that the animal isn't hungry or has some plans for her in the future. It didn't let her teenage mind relax. It just seemed very deeply complicated for some reason.
- You must hate people, don't you? After all this harm that they've delt you... - Myth looked up at her once again after playing with her fingers.
Mercury's head turned towards the child slowly to take a look at her.
- Human kind is one of the cruelest I have ever met - she answered seriously and quietly.
The girl lowered her head as if she was feeling guilty for the accusation.
- Then why are you letting me live? I'm a human, too - Michelle seemed really confused.
- I have a better question - Mercury got up from the ground. - What makes you think that your parent's death is a good reason to die? - she looked the child deeper in the eyes.
- Because I failed him... I don't want to stay here all alone - she explained as her voice started breaking since she was mentioning a terribly difficult topic for her once again.
- And what I am trying to do is give you a chance so that you can survive and have someone who loves you - she responded while raising her voice a little with confidence in her actions. - Respect that.
- I never asked you to spare me! Why me in the first place?!
The panther winked as if she felt offended by what she has just heard.
- Because my cubs were never lucky enough to get a chance like you - Mercury answered calmly, taking a peek at her quickly and then looked away.
She sat further away from Michelle and put her head down in sorrow and grief. Myth felt hurt. The teenager remained almost paralized in her body. Her breath got shallow and eyes became even more teary than before. She immediately regretted everything she said. It wasn't clear to her for even a moment that she might be speaking to someone with such experiences. If she knew, she would have never said that.
- I-I... - she stuttered. - I'm... so sorry... - her voice became squeaky. - I d-didn't mean to - she promised in a whispare-like voice.
The panther barely even shaked. She had nothing to say in that moment. So did Myth but she wanted to try. She realized that it might not be enough but she also trusted that her new friend will understand. The child crawled over to the animal slowly and laid her head on her spine. Her hands then traveled cautiously around the panther and squeezed her body gently with care. The wind was caressing them both in that position. Myth didn't want to let go. It felt like they both really need it.
