By five days, nothing had changed much between Corey and me. He was just going through the motions but I knew otherwise. I should have known that this trip, this move wouldn't have brought us closer.
Wednesday morning was on the chilly side. "I thought that you said it was going to be warmer," I heard Corey grumble in the dark.
"Give me a second," I tossed back the blanket and stumbled around in the dark room.
It took me a few moments to remember where the thermostat was. My phone showed that it was in the thirties. "Man, that's weather back in Colorado," I softly said as I stood there. It was after seven in the morning. The house was silent since the boys and Kayla were on their way to school.
I made a stop in the kitchen to make a pot of coffee. Might as well stay up and get ready for the day. As the coffee brewed, I reflected on what my dad had told me on Saturday. That there is a whole other world that I never knew about. What other creatures are out there?
The cold tile was making my bare feet cold as I stood there. So, I made my way to the bedroom to see if I could find a pair of slippers. The door was closed but I could hear Corey talking to someone. "I'll find a way back to Colorado baby. This was a mistake coming out here."
I didn't hear her response but I heard him say, "I love you too honey. I'll be home sometime soon." Throwing open the door, I stormed into the room. Corey jumped up and dropped his phone on the bed. "Natara," he stammered out when he saw me.
"You can leave today," I glared at him and his jaw dropped. "I knew that you have been lying to me. And I am done. You are not going to make me look like a fool."
He left the room for a second and I got dressed quickly. I didn't want to look at him or even talk to him. There was nothing to talk about. As I searched for a travel mug, I heard his footsteps coming my way. "Can we talk this out?" he asked as he was pulling on a shirt.
Slamming down the mug I had found, I said "What is there to talk about? You ain't ready for commitment. Damn, I wish you had said something before I had you meet my family. Hell, we were together for two years. That should have been my fucking clue!"
He went to step toward me but when I spun around, he stepped back. "I'm..." he stopped talking.
"Don't you dare say that you are sorry," I hissed out as I noticed that the lights were flickering. "You ain't sorry one bit."
My hands shook as I poured coffee into the travel mug. Once I had it fixed, I stormed out, calling out, "You better be gone when I get back."
I slammed the door shut and quickly went to my van. You would think after two years, he would know that I was the right one. He was just toying with me. What pisses me off is that he couldn't be man enough to tell me.
Taking the shortcut, I went to my dad's bar. I needed to talk to him. Strike two in the love department. There ain't gonna be a strike three. When I pulled up, I didn't know that Jared was there. Jared and my dad were outside, talking about something.
As I got out of the van, my dad asked, "Are you okay Natara?"
"Not really dad," my voice was tense still and my dad pulled up a chair for me. They gave me a moment to collect my thoughts. "Corey and I are done. I heard him talking to another woman."
"Did you notice anything strange about him?" my dad asked me.
"His eyes," I took a sip of my coffee. "They had a bluish tint to them. I thought that it was cataracts forming."
