It was so awfully silent. Sitting on this table with 5 guys and only one girl attracted the attention of everyone, especially when Bruce, the popular kid and Vance and Robin, the fighters of the school, were included in those 5 guys I mentioned and surprisingly weren't exchanging a word.
-I don't think I presented myself. I'm Billy Showalter. Nice to meet you Y/N.
I smile at him, glad someone finally spoke up.
-Nice to meet you too.
Before I even saw the missing kids flyers, I already knew some of them, by reputation or just by being friends with them. Billy wasn't one of those, I never even met him before.
Vance glances at Robin then Finney before speaking to me.
-Are you gonna tell us what you were doing in the basement or do I have to-
Bruce interrupts him by discreetly stepping on his foot.
-She already said she didn't know either.
Vance glowers at him.
-It all started as a dream, I didn't even think it was real at first.
-I remember Y/N, you were in my dreams too, you could see me, right ?
Gwen had a thinking allure.
I nod.
-I never really remembered the dreams after waking up though. It didn't make sense to me so i just brushed it off.
Finney clears his throat.
-We have to stop The Grabber before he gets to us. The only problem is that none of us knows who and where Griffin Stagg is.
I have goosebumps at the mention of the murderer. I almost forgot that he was still out there.
-I remember telling the police to go to his house but no matter how much I focus, I can't seem to remember where it is and what it looks like.
It feels like there's no hope and I already have the feeling of being watched. I try to make it go away by shaking my head.
-What is sure is that he has a black van and black balloons, and a fucking creepy ass mask.
Vance talks angrily and I can understand why. They have all been killed by The Grabber and maybe even... I don't really wanna think about it, maybe it makes them feel better that their bodies are the ones from before the tragedy.
-We shouldn't go anywhere alone, I personally don't have to walk home from school because my dad picks me up but you must always stick together.
I said that with a growing fear. Being the targets of a murderer isn't really something relaxing.
Vance abruptly stands up.
-There is no way in hell I stay with you losers. I can deal with him alone.
Robin stands up too and tries to reason with him.
-Don't be so stubborn, you already tried to do that and look where it lead you. We have a second chance to life thanks to Y/N so let's not fucking waste it.
Everyone looks at me and I want to hide in some corner. All I did was pass out in a basement, I don't think I deserve any credit to saving them.
-We're not even sure she was the one who caused it.
Vance spits the sentence with a bit of disdain.
-I agree, I might not be the one who rewinded time. But what is done is done, it doesn't matter who did, you're alive now and I don't think you wanna taste to being dead again.
He rolls his eyes and mutters a "whatever" before leaving. Robin sits again and gives me an awkward smile.
-Well, it went better than I thought it would go.
The food of the cafeteria was really bland and we kept talking instead of eating. I learned how each one of them got caught by The Grabber and it really weren't happy stories to listen to. Some felt the tears coming and had to step out to get some air. And with each eye starting to get a bit red, the lip biting to stop themselves, my heart cracked a bit.
-It's time to get back to class, let's meet each other again later.
I smiled and waved at them, still heartbroken. Finney accompanied me to our science class, head high. I remember how he used to be like before, not at all confident as he is now.
I'm just glad he's still Finney I know.
Stepping in the classroom, I see Donna's gaze go from me to Finney and I put some distance between him and I to avoid misunderstandings and head straight to my seat waiting for the lesson to begin. Donna sits infront of me and turns with a smile and rosé cheeks.
-How is your stomach ? I don't think it really liked that volleyball.
I laugh a little, trying to smoothen the conversation.
-It's better now, thanks to some medication and rest.
She nods, not looking at me. I follow her gaze and see Finney. She really does have a thing for him.
-So what's going on between Finney and you Donna ?
She blushes and finally looks at me, trying to suppress a smile.
-Nothing at all, I just kinda like him. But don't you think something changed about him these days ?
He went through some trauma and somehow became an even better person than he was.
-Umm, I think he's just more confident and social now.
She nods again, vigorously.
-I totally agree, since yesterday. And now today sitting with you and those other guys. You know, everyone is talking about it.
Attracting attention isn't really our goal but it might help us find Griffin.
-Oh, well, nothing really happened you know.
The teacher finally enters the classroom and silence settles.
-Pick a partner for experiments but remember, it will last the whole year and you can't change seats.
I see everyone get up, exchange some words, then sit down, happy of their choice. Donna wasn't an exception, she went to sit next to Finney. But the number of the students was odd and knowing no one besides Donna and Finney, I find myself alone.
Great ! I don't really like teamwork anyways.
The teacher distributes little trays with beans and a little knife then writes the instructions on the board.
The table comes with a microscope and I try to regulate it until I hear a knock on the door's classroom.
A teacher opens the door, dragging Vance by his sleeve.
What did he do this time ?
-Can you please just keep him in your class this time ? I really can't with him and when I kick him out he tries to leave the school.
Vance frowns and rolls his eyes, pulling violently his sleeve from the teacher's grab.
-Sure, sit next to Y/N.
Vance looks at me in the very back of the classroom and he gave me a dirty look, sighs and finally comes sit down next to me. His teacher leaves and we're left again with an experiment to be done.
-Stop looking at them.
Vance's voice surprises me. I quickly look at him before getting back to work.
-What do you mean ?
He crosses his arms on his chest.
-Anyone could notice that you can't look away from Finney and that girl. Are you in love or something?
He finishes his sentence with a disgusted look before looking me up and down. I feel severely judged.
-That's not what you think, they're just my friends and wanna see how it's going.
-So you're noisy. I knew I wouldn't like you from the start.
I scoff. Who does he think he is making hasty conclusions like this ?
-You can talk, Mr troublemaker. I never tried to be your friend either.
He blows air violently from his nose, sign of his displeasure.
I think everything he does is violent and aggressive.
-Give me that bean, even after 2 tries you can't split it in two correctly.
I sigh, looking at the clock. This class will last an eternity with a partner this...this unpleasant.
But I have to admit, I was quite surprised seeing him manipulate the bean so delicately and with care.
He's just trying to prove he could do it. I'm sure that's it.
-Stop looking at me like that and prove yourself useful. For once.
I furrow my eyebrows and feel the blood rush to my cheeks. Vance is a fucking asshole.
