In a world where artistic expression is the only religious value worth having, Iyan Lutton stands firmly apart, blessed not only with zero talents for the arts, but with the social brand of being an outcast. Doomed to solitude, this all changes when Kairie Felling, a foreigner, appears in town and finds an immediate liking towards him. Finally noticed for the good he actually possesses, it doesn't take much to convince Iyan to travel back to this enchanting foreigner's homeland for a once-in-a-century celebration. Unfortunately for Iyan, once he lands in Kairie's strange home, he's left to fend for the grueling three-day march into the heart of the woods with only her strange - and possibly sinister - friends for guides. The deeper into the woods they get, the more Iyan begins to question his reality, sanity, and the intentions of the pagans leading him into the heart of darkness.
