BRIAR DIDN'T WAKE UP UNTIL THE FOLLOWING MORNING when the sun was only just rising from behind the wave of houses. She'd slept for eighteen hours but she still felt weary. Her limbs needed stretched out but she was lying close to Steve and she didn't really want to move. Slowly she raised her eyes and stared above her to Steve. He had his eyes open, tracing the photos and drawings above him.

"How long have you been awake?" Briar asked gently. He jumped softly in surprise to hear her, his eyes flickering towards her before he smiled.

"Not long" he replied, "I didn't wanna wake you"

"I know" Briar grinned before she sat up against the wall around her bed which wasn't sloped. Steve followed her, their shoulders touching as he glanced down at her.

"How are you feeling?"

"Alright" Briar shrugged, "my head still hurts and I feel like I'm underwater... like I can't move properly... and I'm still scared"

"You don't need to be scared" Steve murmured as he tucked some of Briar's hair behind her ear, "it's over now"

"I know but... it was real, every bit of it and I felt like I was in this eternal nightmare"

"I know" Steve reached for her hand and held her touch tight in his palm, "you're safe Bri I promise"

Briar turned to him, watching the way the orange glow of her room meshed with the paleness of his skin. She traced her hand over his face gently before she touched his hair again, running her fingers over the soft strokes of brown. She wanted to stare at him for hours, explore every part of him. He watched her through heavy lashes as she leant forwards and pressed her lips against the side of his neck. He stayed still as she held his face in one hand, kissing his jawline gently, avoiding the large cut on his chin that had faint traces of stitches over it.

Then she turned from where she sat, touching her fingertips to his shoulders as she leant forwards and kissed his lips. Steve moved forwards instinctively, grabbing her waist and pulling her towards him. She sat on his lap as his head hit the wall lightly behind him. Steve kept her held to him as Briar tilted her head and kissed him, she held onto his arms as his hands touched the skin under her shirt, or his shirt that she was borrowing (stealing).

Briar ran her hand through his hair again as she pushed herself into him and felt him grip tighter to her. It was everything she'd been secretly thinking of for years, leaving her guilty for the way she saw her best friend. He traced his fingers over her ribs carefully, Briar held his hands in hers for a moment before she touched her hands to the bottom of the fabric and stared at him slightly nervously.

"Do you want to... do this another time?" She asked carefully, "I mean... when we're not recovering from monster attacks"

"If you want to" Steve kissed the tip of her nose gently, "Bri I just want you, I'd be perfectly happy sitting here just staring at you"

"But if I wanted to... do more than staring at you" Briar frowned, "what would you say to that?"

"I'd be perfectly happy with that too" Steve smiled gently, "if that's what you want"

"Yeah" Briar nodded, "yeah it is"

Steve grinned at her again before he started pressing kisses into her neck while Briar played with his hair. She felt him trace his hands up her back, pushing her to the bed carefully, ensuring that she was rested on a cushion before he kissed her again. Briar held onto his shoulders as he hovered above her, hair falling slightly over her forehead as he kissed her gently.
