Julie's POV
"Have fun poisining people at the diner!" I said sarcastically. "For the last time, my eggs aren't poisonous. I just add black and red pepper to them." said my best friend, Taylor Iyers. I pretended to vomit over my neighbor's fence. Taylor shook her head and let out an exasperated sigh. I laughed at her as she playfully threw a pencil at me. As I walked away from her, towards my house, I shouted, "Have a good day. See you tommorrow!" "You too!" Taylor replied. I grabbed the key from under the neutral welcome mat and unlocked the front door. "Hi Mom, i'm home!" I said. "I'm in the kitchen." came the muffled response. I put my backpack on the hanger in the pantry and turned around. I immediatly knew sonething was wrong. My mom sat down on the couch, staring out the window with hollow eyes. Now my mom is a very cheerful person, and the only time I have ever seen her sad, was when I was in 5th grade, and her uncle had died. I sat down and turned to face her. "Are you okay Mom? Do you need anything?" She just stared out the window. "Mom, can I help you?" still no response. Then I stood up with realization. She wanted to be left alone.
I took my binders and started on my homework. At a quarter to 8, I had finished my homework and had started reading a book, when I heard the door slam downstairs. "Hey Da.." I faltered mid-sentence. My Dad was standing in the doorway crying, leaning onto the door handle for support. What the heck is going on?!
