We gathered our suitcases and walked up the steps into our new home. The eerie silence sent chills down my spine. My father tried to give me an encouraging smile, but all he managed to do was a thin line. I gave him a grim smile in turn and turned to set my bags down. I flipped on the light switch, and blinding, white lights, present a large foyer, leading to a cozy living room.
I admired the crystal chandelier hanging over our heads. As we examined the house and it's broken windows, I knew something was wrong. Maybe it was the overgrown weeds hugging the walls, or the empty courtyard surrounding the mansion, whatever it is, I don't have a good feeling about this place. We entered the kitchen and found the fridge stocked with food. How weird! This place looked like it hadn't been used for ages. We started making mushroom stew, working side by side. The mouthwatering aroma filled the air. I got out the plates and eating utensils, and then laid them out on the table. Once we were both seated, I let out the question I've been holding in all day,"How did you afford this mansion?" My dad looked at me and smiled for the first time today. "We bought it for a very good deal. The manor was selling for 46,000. Unbelievable right! I mean that is cheaper than our old house, which is only 1/4 the size!" He laughed. I plastered a smile on my face, but it was not genuine. Somehow, I don't really think it is. Something bad was going on, something really, really, really bad. I just couldn't lay a finger on it. After dinner was over and the dishes were cleaned, I said good night to Dad and excused myself from the kitchen. I walk up three flights of stairs to the second room on my left. I went directly to the spacious closet and started unpacking. After I had finished, as I had very few belongings, I rushed downstairs to help my father, and found him sitting on the couch, already finished. I sat down next to him, and snuggled up to him. I loved my father more than anything in the world. My mother.....I didn't even want to talk about her. How could she leave someone like my loving father for some stranger? My father gave me a sympathetic smile. "Honey, you're going to be going to a new school starting day after tommorrow. I sat rigidly. How could I forget! What was I going to do without Taylor? The only remnant left from my old life was my father. Someone that I was thankful for. All of the regular life I once had is gone. My life would never be the same.
