about ten minutes later I heard growing footsteps-- a few at a time, probably doormates nextdoor. they were saying something, but it sounded muffled through the walls. I wonder when my roommate will come. I sit on my bed and scroll through my phone.

then, all at once, the doorknob turns, the door opens and a backpack is thrown on the floor. I jump and nearly drop my phone. the person stands there for a few seconds before speaking.

"uh. . ." he says.

"h-hi, I'm y/n. we're roommates." I say awkwardly. I fix my clothes a little. seeing this boy so dressed up made me feel so dull.

"a roommate? why didn't I know about this?" he pulls out his phone from his pocket. "an email. great."

He closes the door behind him and walks up to me. "any problems, they say I can email them back." I gulp and nod, realizing this might not be as easy as I thought it would be.

"my names jake."

"y/n." I repeat, with nothing else to say.

"so. . .I'm guessing you got your schedule and stuff?" he asks.

"yeah, could I see yours?" I respond, taking the paper out of my folder. I compare it to his and conveniently, we have all our classes together.

"hey, jack-"

"jake."

"jake, could you show me around?"
