you and akaza stood quietly on the flower dotted plain, waiting for the sun to rise. his arms grasped you from behind as tightly as if he was holding on to life. your thumbs were drawing soft circles on his arms.

the sky overhead was rapidly brightening, as if announcing the arrival of the sun. the blue, now pale, lingered on the edge of the sky. Streaked with colour, the view was beautiful. However, apprehension hung thick in the air.

'it's okay', you murmur. 'countless times both tamayo and shinobu-san has declared you safe for the sunlight.'

deep inside, you were anxious and nervous in a way that rivalled even him. the emotions churned, mixing you up from the inside.

your fingers curled tightly on his skin, making sure every second that he was solid and not ash, decomposing.

'y/n', he spoke up. his voice laced with pain.'i've always needed to tell you this.'

'in case i-'

'stop. stop.' you turned around to face him. his face was flushed with a noticeable crimson, the wind ruffling his hair gently. your heart melted at the sight. his golden eyes glowed with an emotion you couldn't quite place.

none of you notice the light swiftly approaching.

'y/n', his lips formed your name. the sound was beautiful. Smiling, his blush grew. he tucks a stray strand of hair behind your ear, your heart leaping at the touch. 'i love you.'

the world skips a beat as the sunlight falls on his face. After what had felt like an year, he blinks slowly, pink lashes fluttering. his face morphs into one of awe. 'I've never expected it to be this bright and warm', he says, eyes on you. the tension promptly snaps, replaced with an explosion of bliss and elation.

emotion blooms inside you, joy painting your face at the sight of akaza illuminated by sunlight. Rather than the blue from his blood demon art. you both laugh out of relief and ecstacy.

you just feel like you're in a happy bubble, with akaza. it's amazing, this feeling. the sunlight is warm, almost like an affectionate blanket spread on your skin, and you're so, so happy akaza was able to feel it with you. he lifts you up and spins you around, endless joy pouring from the both of you.  you skim your fingertips on the bubble, absolutely confident nothing could pop it.

you land back on the ground, falling into his arms.

'let's spend forever together, y/n.' he pulls you close.

the sound of clapping echoed in your head, and you open your eyes to see koyuki smiling sadly at you. the feeling of guilt, betrayal and envy took over you. filling up your throat with it, choking you.

you push him off.

'..i can't.'

he took it like a stab to him.

'why not?'

you held up a shaking hand at koyuki, walking over to you with her worried expression.

her voice echoed in your head, but you couldn't make out the words. you sit right outside of the bubble, koyuki trying in vain to comfort you.

akaza hesitantly steps forward and crouches down to take your hands in his. 'are you okay, y/n? i'm here for you.'

you looked up to him, tears brimming. 'you belong with her. not me.'

he looked around the two of you. 'no one else's here.', he says cautiously.

it's so hard, pushing him away.

'it's gonna be okay! y/n, it's been two centuries. he needs to move on. take care of him for me, okay?' 

'no, koyuki.' you say out loud.

'who's that?' he sounds genuinely confused. 

'your wife.' you sigh, giving up to keep it a secret anymore.

'please. i love only you, y/n.' his grip on your hands turn slightly tighter.

'when you were eighteen.' you say as if it were obvious.

he stays silent, opting to let you continue.

'i'll tell you your story from when you were human.' you say, looking away.

his eyes widen.
