Chapter 10: Bunk Count

*Nicky's POV*

"So what exactly is this now?" Chrissy said to me.

"Eh. It's like a role call. It's called 'count'. They're making sure no crazy fucks decide to escape!" I chuckled.

"Ahh. I see. Has anyone escaped before?"

"Well yeah...actually 2 people escaped on the same day! Vee Parker and Rosa" I explained.

"Damn! That's insane!"

"Yeah, I don't blame Rosa though! She was dying of cancer! Morello helped her escape actually!"

"Wow, that's awesome!"

"Yeah and I guess Vee escaped through the 'contraband pipe' in Red's garden club shed...then Rosa hit her purposely. Thank god. I hated her. She was always so rude." I stated.

"Well, I guess I don't have a reason to escape. I'll just live down my sentence"

"How long you got, DiVacaro?"

"36 months."

"Damn! For stabbing a guy in the hand with a pen?! I mean...I have 48 more months, but I got caught with heroin!" I exclaimed.

2 CO's entered our dorm. A heavy set guy with red cheeks and Fischer. They went to each bunk and counted inmates with a metal clicker. Fischer walked over to our bunk.

"Nichols" she said.

"CO Fischer" I smirked.

"Hi, Chrissy!" Fischer said to Chrissy.

"2 in this bunk" Fischer said and clicked her counter 2 times.

She walked away from our bunk. Mendez came into our dorm and yelled:

"RECOUNT, LADIES!"

"God. They always mess up! How hard is it to fucking count?!" I complained.

"Seriously!" Chrissy growled.

Fischer came back into our bunks and smiled. She recounted our bunk.

"She's honestly one of the only CO's I don't hate!" I exclaimed.

"Same, dude!"

An announcement came over the PA system: inmates count is concluded. Return to your assigned jobs.

"Well, kid! I'll see you later! I'm off to check all the lights in the building!" I laughed.

"Nice! I'm off to do everyone's laundry!"

"Oooo have fun with Vause!" I winked.

"Shut up, Nicky!!!" She giggled.

"Alright! See ya, kid!"

We both left to our assigned jobs.
Chrissy in laundry and me in electric.
