He sat there dumbfounded for a moment, attempting to at least process what just happened. Not only did this not so stupid nurse help him, she nonchalantly took his literal wounds from him and put it on her own body (which he knows was a damn painful injury), but she nonchalantly healed herself too. And she knew he was a villain. She still healed him anyways.
"Why did you bother healing me?" He asked as he put tried to put his shirt back on. Fumi grabbed the shirt away from him as she explained.
"Look, heroes and villains, good and bad, it's not always black and white. I don't condone your behavior, but you grew up in the same society I did. If society pushed you to be a villain then it's society that needs to change. Also your shirt is all bloody so you're not wearing that to sleep."
"Sleep?"
"Yeah, I got a baggy shirt you can use instead. And while my quirk is all nice and dandy it can make people tired from the rapid healing, especially first timers." As if on cue dabi felt his eyelids grow heavy. She went to her closet and passed him the shirt while she left to put away her first aid kit. He eyed the black shirt before putting it on. It was a little tight on his shoulders but it'd be fine. She came back with a glass of water she set on the nightstand for him.
"...thanks." he said, a bit embarrassed. He couldn't keep eye contact for very long with her. Almost as if he could find her intimidating, not that he'd ever say that.
"No problem. Now, what I wanna know is why were you injured in the first place? LOV made some enemies? You got jumped by somebody?"
"It's none of your business."
"I saved you from dying so I mean, it is kinda my business." She said matter of factly.
"You're annoying. I could kill you in a second and you're pissing me off."
"I know you can, but you won't." She said as she sat down on the edge of the bed. He moved to sit up, a little skittish at her proximity. "I helped you, and you're probably ten minutes from knocking out. At best. So spill." He glared at her, unsure whether to kill her or roll his eyes at her ridiculous antics.
"You're gonna laugh."
"Surprise me." She said as she moved across from him and sat with her legs crossed. He sighed as he was about to speak; speechless that he's even having this conversation this late with a complete stranger.
"...I decided to leave the league." Her eyes widened at his words.
"Holy shit but wha-"
"Shut up princess I'm not done yet." She was about to reprimand him on the nickname but decided to bite her tongue to hear more of the story. "Anyways as I was saying, I left. And, I left because...well, I joined to change the perspective of heroes. To make everyone see that heroes aren't saints and to hold them accountable for their crimes. To make them be equal to everyone else. But shigaraki....he just wants to hurt everyone."
He paused for a moment, choosing his words carefully. "He made a plan to bring heroes together in one place. But to do it he'd be killing thousands of innocent people. He doesn't want to change hero society anymore. He just wants to kill. And I, I know I'm a villain. But I can't let him kill people just to make heroes look bad. So I took a picture of his plans and planned to anonymously give it to the police. The league found out. And most of my departing gifts were what you healed. I ran away. If they find me they'll kill me. "
"So, you got hurt because you tried to do the right thing?" Fumi sighed as she decided to sit next to him, her arm snug next to his as she continued. "Dang. Well, you can stay here for now, and as for the picture I can bring it in for you if you'd like. But I'd have to show them that it was you so I can prove it's a legitimate threat to the civilians."
"No I can't- what is going on?" He said abruptly, a feeling of calmness beginning to flow around his body.
"Oh, another fun thing about my quirk. If you have some type of chronic pain or small temporary pain I can help lessen it through physical contact. It even works when I sleep. I helped a friend that had chronic back pain like that once. Wait, do you have chronic pain?"
He was unamused as he gestured to his body. "Scars from burns? Hello? Obviously I'm always in pain princess."
"So is it helping?"
"Yeah....a bit." He said quietly, his eyes getting heavy from feeling so relaxed, for the first time in so many years.
"Okay then. Here's the deal: stay here for now. I'll schedule a time with the police to tell and show them the league's plans. Until then you'll stay here to lay low and we'll see if we can cut a deal for your cooperation. Who knows, if we can prove you were forced to do bad stuff only because of the league then maybe we can make sure you avoid jail time."
His eyes were fighting to stay open, the whispers of dream land beckoning him to rest. "Why help me? What do you get out of this?"
"You getting a second chance at living a better life. Most villains were only created because our society failed them. If I can help you, then that means the same society that failed other villains can also make up for their past mistakes."
He slid down the bed a bit before getting under the covers. "You comin' princess?"
"Only if you stop calling me that."
"Just get over here. I don't like touching, but you're better than any painkiller I've had." You snort at his words before getting under the covers too.
"What am I a Tylenol?"
"Shut up. Sleep." He said before sleepily pulling her close to him. Her cheeks were warm and pink, never being this close to a man before. Her heartbeat sounded like a drum in her ears. He was pressed against her, his arm splayed across her side and back, they laid there chest to chest. His body radiated heat, a lovely thing for her home in autumn. She couldn't help but feel herself also following him into dream land, his warmth like a blanket wrapping itself around her into a wonderful cocoon.
