The sun shone through the blinds that were draped over the window. A loud bell rings throughout the school of Redwood letting students know it was time to get up. Remy twists and turns in his comfortable bed not wanting to open his eyes. Today would be the first day of school, something he had been dreading since he came here.
He happened to only have one class with his friend Nevaeh, who was already ready for school since she woke up early this morning. She and Remy never got to watch 'The Black Phone' the night before since they weren't sure if Vincent would snitch on the two or not.
Nevaeh made her way out of her dorm but, not before waking up her deaf roommate who she knew wouldn't be able to hear the morning bell. Nevaeh felt bad for the girl. Imagine being born without being able to hear anything at all. Why would the world make people suffer like that?
Nevaeh hated the world; she saw it as nothing but cruel for how it treated people in it. Especially the things people of her skin color used to go through and the stuff they still go through now. She hated how people got bullied for being them, or how people had to suffer from disabilities. Abuse, murder, depression, racism, sexism, rape, self-harm, suicide, addiction, kidnappers, pedophiles, and eating disorder are all these awful things the world let happens.
What was the reason for allowing such cruel things in this universe to happen to such innocent people? If she could she would destroy the world herself but that would be a hard task. As a child things weren't hidden from her. She grew up faster than other people. She saw the real world before she could believe the lies about it.
When Nevaeh turned six she was told she was mature for her age. She understood the things that happened around her. She wanted to stop those horrible things that happen in the world even if it was just for a bit. She got bullied for her skin color when she was in 4th grade. She refused to take such disrespectful words from such people.
She would always fight back. She refuses to let the world see her suffer. Since she fought back she was given the title of a troublemaker even though she was far from it. She was just protecting herself. It wasn't fair to her to be seen as a bad guy when the people who actually were the bad guy, were seen as victims.
She meant Remy her first year at Redwood when he was being bullied. She took up for him and kicked every single one of those bullies' asses. Her parents taught her and her brother how to fight as they both grew up. She was told that one day " She'll have to fight for her life". Nevaeh never found out what her parents meant by that sentence.
Nevaeh had lots of 'Friends'. She wasn't popular, more like respect for going against clearly unfair things. Nevaeh was always stressed all the time. She felt like she never got a break but, that wasn't going to stop her from giving up.
Nevaeh picked up the habitat of vaping at 10 years old and has done it ever since. She was introduced to vaping by her 17-year-old cousin who vapes a lot. It helps her let off steam and stress without it the world might make her suffer too.
She vaped once, she needed to vape again. She vaped twice, she needed to vape again.
Eventually, she got addicted not knowing she had fallen into the world's trap she so desperately wanted to not suffer from. She needed to vape; she had to let the nicotine enter her body, no matter how much it marred her lungs... She needed it. Without it, she was an empty shell with nothing inside of her. A void with nothing to consume or gain.
She was in too deep and she wouldn't be able to stop it. She was already taking out her vape to take a hit as she made her way down the hallways of Redwood. She then reached Remy's dorm and got ready to knock. Before she could knock Remy was already opening the door.
Remy's uniform was just a bit too big for him showing that he had lost more weight again. Nevaeh saw this and knew just how he lost that weight. Remy felt guilty when he ate food because he knew there were people in this world like his aunt who didn't have the money to eat food so he felt bad when he ate so he just stopped.
Remy looked at the vape in the girl's hand and frowned. He knew there was no stopping it but Nevaeh was too young for this. She was too young to harm herself with such a horrible addiction that she may not be able to get rid of for a long time. He sighs a bit.
" Hey Nev, " Remy finally spoke to the girl. Nevaeh was wearing multiple accessories on her uniform. She was surely going to be dress code since it was against the uniform rules but she could give less of a fuck. Whoever made dress code a thing in this world just couldn't control their dumb fucking dick.
"Hey ready to go I see, what a shock since you never let the morning bell wake you up " Nevaeh teased. Remy rolls his eyes. " Let's just get this day over with, " He responds. He wasn't ready not one bit for this day to begin. The two begin to walk down the hallway together, neither of them ready to take on the school day.
Nevaeh couldn't help but mess with Remy as they walked down the hallway together. Their first-class happens to be in the same hallway as each other. For the rest of their classes, they'll have to be alone until their last class which they have together.
When they finally made it to the hall of their class they parted ways with each other. " Welp bye Re and remember if anyone fucks with you tell me I'll deal with them " She stated to Remy. Remy pointed his finger at Nevaeh like he was her mother about to scold the girl, " Nev do not end up in the principal office on your first day ". Nevaeh simply smirks at her best friends. " No, promise ".
They finally left for their classes to start the school day

Sorry, I haven't updated this in a while. I was trying to come up with a writing schedule. Chapters for this book will now be posted every weekend. Also sorry for the information dump about Nevaeh's character as well. Anyway, I'll try to make more character interaction in the next chapter as well as introduce some more main characters in this book. So far we only introduce Kade, Vincent, Nevaeh, and Remy. Just so you guys know Remy might not be brought up much in the next chapter to introduce new characters.
