I run all around the houses. Sasha is up taking watch. She'll let me get passed the gates. I run up my back thumping against my back, my crossbow hitting my side, my gun tapping against the belt.
"Sasha," I whisper. She whips around her eyes empty, and dull.
"I need to get out," I say quietly.
"Why?" She asks, and looks at me.
"Blow off steam. I'll be fine. I have weapons, and my flashlight," I say, but she shakes her head.
"Does Daryl know?" I shake my head.
"I'm immune. It doesn't matter. Just please let me get out. I feel like I can't breathe," I whisper, as tears threaten to spill. She sighs, and unlocks the gate. Relief fills me, and I run out.
"One hour. If you're not back I'll go out and find you. Let me remind you I'm not immune. If I get bit my blood is on your hands," she says. I gulp, and nod carefully.
I run. The air flying through my skin. The adrenaline coursing through my veins, and my heart beat pumping out of my chest. My eyes scan the dark forest, as I look out for walkers. Nothing. Not a single sound. I walk along the scattered leaves, keeping my head up. Which, was probably a bad idea. I hear one groan, below me, and bring the flashlight to it. The walker lies on the floor, and brings me down with it. I quickly react, and bring my knife to it's head. As my knife makes contact with it's head, a gun shot rings, and it blunges in it's head. I raise my flash light, and see her. Her long brown hair tied back, and green eyes stare at me.
"Mary?"
"Enid?" We say at the same time. I stand to my feet, and walk to her.
"What are you doing out here?" I ask her.
"I can ask you the same thing," she says back. I nod with a smirk on my face.
"Yeah you could. I just needed to get out," I say.
"I don't want to just stay inside," she says. I understand what she means, but I want her to explain.
"I sneak out all the time. They don't know what it's like the be out here, and staying inside acting like everything is normal-I need to be out here," she says.
"Let's go kill some walkers," she smirks, and leads the way.
Carl's P.O.V.
Judith's cries only get louder, and louder. Michonne is trying to calm her down, but it isn't working. Mary, my father, or Beth are the only people that can calm her down. My father is out and Mary ran off. Beth, she's dead.
"Where's Mary? She was supposed to be here," Michonne states.
"Ran out," I say plainly. Judith's cries calm down, as we feed her.
"What did you do?" Michonne stares at me.
"I told her I love her," I mumble. My heart swells at the thought, but shatters when I remember her running out.
"Why did she run out?" Michonne sits down holding Judith.
"She loves me. I know she does-"
"But?"
"But she's afraid," I fall down on the couch beside her. "She's waiting for this place to fall. She doesn't think it's safe," I say.
"Always keep your guard on Carl. That's all she's doing. After everything we have been through- what she has been through. It's going to be hard for her to trust anyone, or feel safe."
"What do you mean by 'what she has been through'?" I quote her words.
"Being alone for two years, finding her brothers, going back and fourth between Woodbury and the prison, then Merle dying, and running around. Being alone out there is agonizing," she says her eyes falling into a gaze.
"Michonne," I snap her out.
"Just give her time," She says.
Mary's P.O.V.
"I love it," she said between breaths, "the adrenaline." She finally adds.
"Sometimes I think if hell didn't rise I would be an adrenaline junky," she says, her head tilted back in laughter.
"I'd be in the wrong crowd, you know? The rebels, and the stoners. I just know I'd be with them," I admit.
"Why?" She asks.
"I wouldn't give up on school, like my brothers, but they weren't good in school," I would be just like them.
"Guess we'd be in the same group," she says, and leads the way.
"Where are we going?" I ask keeping my crossbow close. She steps out of the forrest, and rushes to the abandoned house. She rushes through the cabinets, and hides her gun.
"They can't know," she says. She holds her hand out.
"I'm not giving you my gun," I say.
"Fine," she rolls her eyes.
"How did you get out?" She asks.
"I went through the gates," I said, like it was the obvious thing in the world.
"Come," she jogs away into the dark, and run after her. Stakes are plunged into the wall, and she climbs over.
"Smart," I mumble. She climbs over, and I walk through the gate meeting her on the other side. I threw my hand in the air, and Sasha nods. Relief floods over me knowing my blood wasn't on her hands.
"So are we good?" Enid pops behind me.
"Yeah," I nod.
"Good," she smiles. A real smile. She runs off to her house, and I roam the empty streets. I look back at the gate; it's closed.
"No!" I hear someone scream. I run to the screams. The smoke rises into the air, and I am behind Daryl.
"Mary, go," Daryl hisses. I push past him, and some other man. Deanna is on the floor crying next to her husband. Jessie's husband, Pete has Michonne's katana. It drops to the floor with a clinging sound. Daryl pulls me back, away from the crazy man. Rick shoots him, and he lies limply on the floor.
"Daryl he's going to turn," I whisper. The man beside me stares at Rick.
"Rick?" He says. I look up at him, mysteriously. Who was this man? Rick looked at him. Blood covered him, and he looked swollen in some areas on his face.
"I'm taking Mary," Daryl informs Aaron. I trail behind him. Three, two, one.
"What were you doing out here, Mary?!" Daryl yells, as we stand on the porch.
"You can't tell me what to do anymore," I say, folding my arms in front of me.
"You're my little sister. I've always taken care of you, and you'll listen to me, damn it," he yells.
"I want to go out there," I say.
"No," he walks into the empty house, and I follow.
"So when this place burns down do you want me to have bad stamina, and not be able to kill walkers?"
"That won't happen. You've been huntin' since ya can remember," he scoffs.
"I went outside," I blurt. "I want to do what you do, Daryl. You can't force me to play house when they're out there," I hiss.
"I'll talk about this tomorrow," he says.
