Chap 38

For three years, the world died.

Living literally meant watching people die or dying yourself. The disease caused like late-stage HIV, immunodeficiency, and people would die of any disease. But if Padiole had only caused immunodeficiency, then maybe the world would be different today.

Padiole altered DNA, people were infertile, and the few babies that were born were contaminated and died quickly. People died and the population did not renew itself. The mass deaths impacted all systems and just like that society collapsed. It was ironic, but dystopian or apocalyptic movies were like documentaries.

What saved the human race ? People like Marie Baroni.

She had an allele in her genes that made her immune to the virus, she just couldn't catch it. Among the survivors worldwide, scientists found that 11 people from different families had incredibly unique DNA that made them immune. The only thing they all had in common was their hair and eye color. They were like Isaac, or rather Isaac was like them. 

Marie Baroni and the other eleven families saved the world, they were given the name of Dolce. They had become like gods, or at least they were given god-like privileges.

Marie Baroni understood the importance of preserving the power of her genetic code, she had three children and only one had the gene that made him immune to the virus, his name was Isha, he was born in 2040, he was the eldest son. Mary taught him the rules of the Baroni family that he would pass on to his children. So thanks to this woman Isaac had the status he has today, and because of her his mother was the most insensitive woman he knew.

Rosa left nothing to chance in the education of Isaac, despite her constant hatred towards the young prince she remained rigorous in applying the rules of the Baroni family in order to leave it illustrious. That's why as soon as she came back from her stay abroad she applied herself to reframe Isaac and to inspect all that he had done during her absence. Isaac hoped with all his heart that she did not know about him and Keith.  It wasn't out of shame for the young servant but rather fear that she would hurt him or take him away from him. For now it seemed to be ok since she had offered Keith to stay and work at the palace.

Isaac was looking forward to being with Keith for the rest of the year, he had so much to show him, they had so much to experience together.
