She ran through the garden brushing her fingers against the long grass and flowers laughing, "My lady slow down!" The servant shouted running out of breath.Prim looked back and chuckled as she ran back to the servant, "Natalie you're going to be in a great deal of danger this winter if you're this slow, father told me wolfs from the west will migrate here during the winter and they're awfully fast!" She huffed out regaining her breath.
"Well that's awfully frightening I'll be sure to keep that in mind but I really must get back to work" she bowed and ran back to the estate leaving Prim there frowning, it wasn't that Prim was irritating or hard to be friends with it was just that the servants had their jobs to do and her father wasn't as generous and friendly as Prim was.
She brushed her hands on her dress and began walking towards the waterfall she always loved going there the sounds of the water and the birds made her feel relaxed and as if she wasn't really on earth she loved this because she could close off her mind from reality and daydream for hours on end.
She lay at her usual spot and brushed her fingers against the water closing her eyes however this time she couldn't seem to daze off she was too focused on the fact that her 18th birthday was coming up in just 2 days. She gulped and opened her eyes looking up at the trees above, now that she was almost 18 she would have to get married soon.
She hated the idea of marriage and hardly knew anything about men except that they love alcohol and are tremendously loud, her father hadn't been the best example at showing her what a man is either he was cold distant and always indulged in something harmful whether it was smoking, drinking, gambling or taming wild animals.
Shaking her head trying to get all the worried thoughts out her head she got up and picked some flowers by the river.
A white lilac caught her eye the most however she didn't want it to die quickly if pick it so she ran over to the gardener and asked him for a flower pot which he gladly gave her.
The servants, maids and gardeners adored her she was the most generous in her family and treated them as if they were equal in status which was extremely strange at this time.
Smiling cheerfully she thanked the gardener and ran back to the white lilac and dug it out with its roots still in tact and placed it in the flower pot.
Looking at it in awe she decided it would go perfectly in her private art room and walked back to the estate.
While she was walking through the halls she came across her older sister who had just left the library.
"Mary! Do you like my flower i found it was better to keep it in a pot rather than a vase it'll live longer!" She smiled at her sister, her sister was never the friendly type and although she always received the cold shoulder from her she always tried to cheer her up.
"You should put the same energy into your studies and education." She blankly said and walked off making Prim sigh.
She didn't blame her sister after all she was next in line for the throne and had tremendous pressure under her, she was the kingdoms future queen after all.
Finally after walking and greeting the servants and maids she got to her art room and placed the pot on a small side table by a canvas she had contemplated whether or not to take it back with her to the castle or just leave it at the estate and decided to just leave it here.
She liked the estate more she came here when she needed to get away and enjoy the country side the royal life was tiring and she never really understood anything about it.
She was a simple girl born in a extravagant lifestyle, she loved nature the colour pink, flowers and her femininity she was happy with how she was and didn't want to grow up at all, infact it frightened her.
Hearing a knock at the door she looked over to see her mother smiling warmly at her,
"Lovely flower you've got there"
Prim smiled and ran over to her mother hugging her while her mother combed her hair with her hand."Mother I'm so frightened about turning 18!" She frowned looking up.
"And whys that?" Her mother furrowed her eyebrows."I don't want to grow up mother! I want to stay here forever!" She wept
"Don't worry Rose you'll be fine." Her mother smiled reassuring her not to worry.
Her mother was a intelligent gentle woman it puzzled her why her father was the king and controlled the kingdom when her mother would make far better decisions than him.
"Now my Rose get ready we must get back to the castle soon." She brushed her hair one more time and left.
She stepped into the carriage and waved goodbye to Natalie and all the other servants before her sister mother and father all entered after her.
"Mary, sweetheart you look exhausted put the book down and rest a bit would you." Mother said looking at Mary concerned.
"No leave her, exhausted she rightfully shall be in order to rule a kingdom such as I do" father bluntly said making mother glare at him.
"You're too harsh on her Francis." She blurred out and grabbed the book from Mary placing it on her lap.
"Rest my dear" she smiled at Mary and tucked her hair behind her ear which made father scoff.
The ride was long and silent, everyone but Prim had fallen asleep. Prim was too busy looking at the scenery through the window.
Soon after they arrived at the castle she entered her room and she saw a stunning dress on her bed along with some jewellery and accessories
She gasped and looked behind her hearing someone chuckle.
"It's for your birthday my rose" her mother smiled.
