CHAPTER 30 (TO WAR)

25 9 1

Cecilia and Charles spoke more about the past; how he joined the rebels, how he joined the freedom fighters and all the hell he went through. Cecilia also told him about Canada; about Kelvin and Vera. She managed to make him laugh. Charles didn't remember the last time he laughed so heartily. He felt so relieved and hugged Cilia.

"I missed you so much, every single day."

"Me too, Charles."

"Hm hm...guys, you have to come and see this," Dan loudly cleared his throat before he announced. He felt uncomfortable with how close Charles and Cilia were. He had no reason to be jealous, but he had to look out for Kelvin just in case.

Military tankers kept streaming into the camp. They were lined up perfectly, with more soldiers also matching into the camp. Everyone was busy packing up the new ammunition that were brought in-- bombs, all kinds of guns, tear gases, new bullet proof vests and uniforms.

Del made a personal request to the Minister of Defense without the knowledge of the Chief lieutenant. When the Chief found out, he could not protest, because that would draw suspicions towards him. The minister was also his next target, so he had to lay low and pretended he was in full support of the mission.

"This is really going to be a big war," Cecilia sighed.

"Don't worry. We've got this," Charles smiled.

"Okay. I need the raven," Vera said, dragging Charles away from Cecilia. She also did that because she noticed Kelvin sulking in one of the tents.

Vera took Charles away to brief him on what to do. Then, they engaged in a little combat.

"You're good," Vera raised a brow, complimenting Charles.

"Thanks. I was trained by my dad. He was once in the military," he gave a small smile and shrugged.

The duo were beginning to like each other. During the cause of lecturing Charles, they got to share some life experiences. Vera narrated how her parents died, her revenge and her attachment to Cilia. Charles also told her about himself and his friendship with Cilia.

"I don't know why, but I liked her the moment I set my eyes on her," Vera confessed.

"Yeah, I get it. Ella es un angel," Charles nodded and chuckled. "She makes every hopeless situation worth living. She brings smiles on every face..."

"Even Del's," Vera commented and they burst into laughter.

"She's got a big heart," Charles said, his eyes full of admiration for Cilia.

"Yeah, you're right," Vera nodded and smiled. They then proceeded to pack their weapons.

Cecilia also prepared for battle, her weapons lying in front of her. Kelvin walked into her tent with a  sullen look on his face.

"Are you okay?" Cilia asked concerned.

"I saw you and Charles," he sighed.

'Oooh,' Cecilia smiled in her head, but kept a straight face.

"Charles and I have been best friends since childhood. I guess you already knew that. So we were doing something long lost friends should at least do; just talking and reuniting. Nothing too 'deep'. We're best friends," she tried to explain.

"It's okay. I totally understand," Kelvin nodded clearing his throat. He was trying so hard to keep a straight face.

"You do?" Cilia asked in surprise.

"Don't worry. Gotcha!" Kelvin said laughing at the baffled look on Cilia's face.

"Arhhh..." she grunted, feigning anger.
