Chapter 18

A/N: Y/n doesn't really make appearances in this chapter because she's grieving the death of her parents and enjoying some time with Ava. I hope you understand. This is more of a filler chapter for what will come later :)
The video above is for the part of the play btw. It's the version of the movie but if you want the clip of the play you can just message me and I'll send you a link :)

Lizzie's POV
Next day, Tuesday, y/n skipped school and Ava didn't perform. Teachers said that Ava took a break from performing for personal reasons. We kept sitting at the second nearest table to the empty stage so Marley didn't ruin my life even more but Marley looks sad. I guess she misses Ava's singing too...
My empathy was stronger than my will so it led me to something crazy. No one was comforting Marley and she seemed to be extra sad. I could read that she didn't have just one problem. I stood up and walked over to help that bitch.
"Are you okay?" I asked, putting an arm on her shoulder.
"It's obvious I'm not. What's up with you? You have enough problems, why are you being nice to the person who causes most of them?" she asked.
"I'm an empath. I feel what people around me feel. I know you are not okay. Why is that?" I asked, sitting next to her. The cheerleaders just ignored me and kept talking about their stuff.
Marley brushed a strand of dark hair behind her ear.
"Well... My boyfriend broke up with me and I thought Ava's music would cheer me up, as always but... She bailed on me" she explained, focusing her blue eyes on the floor.
"She was going to be the reason why I would smile today but I have no reason to do so right now and no one in this group actually cares about me. They just stick by me for my popularity" she frowned.
"I can't say that I understand you but I am willing to help yo-"
"Why?!" She interrupted me.
"After I made you break up with your boyfriend? After I ruined your life and made you miserable with all the pressure? Why are you helping me?!"
"I try to be a better person everyday. It's kinda working and I have a lot of friends who actually care about me. You did make my life living hell but maybe, by helping you, I could get better and you would improve too. Win-win" I said. I don't really know why I'm doing this. My gut tells me that this is the right thing to do so I guess I'll do it. Call it a hunch.
"Let's meet outside this restaurant" I gave her the address of my workplace "Tuesdays at five. If you want to meet more days, I'll give you my schedule. See you there" I heard her mumbling a "thank you" before I stood up and went back to my table.
"What did you just do with Marley?" Kate asked.
"Nothing. Don't worry about it" they dropped it but I knew they wanted answers. Hopefully, when Marley became a bit of a better person, they would understand.
I took out my salad and started eating it when I felt someone looking at me. I looked at the football player's table and saw Robbie looking at me. Liz wasn't by his side and I didn't see her come to him in the whole lunch break period. We just stole little glances at each other while the minutes slowly passed.
When the school day was over, Colette picked me up and drove me to work on her motorcycle. I've grown to love that thing. At the beginning, it reminded me of Robbie but holding on to her and closing my eyes, I could feel that their driving was different. Robbie was more spontaneous but Colette drove so smoothly. As if she had used that same vehicle for thousands of years until she completely mastered it.
