I let out a groan at the sound of my alarm and dived deeper into my sheets, hoping I would stop hearing the annoying beeping sound, but after a few minutes, it was still beeping, louder than ever. I groaned another time before blindly searching for the stopping button, my eyes still closed.
I think we can skip the part where I got myself out of bed, lazily went to the bathroom because I think you guessed it, I am not a morning person.
I got dressed before looking at myself in the huge mirror behind my door. I looked nice, my curly blond hair was tied into a ponytail, my hazel eyes were highlighted by brown eye-liner, which made them look bigger. I had pale skin, but fortunately for me, I tanned pretty well, without even getting burnt.
I took my hand bag, threw a few books in it before heading downstairs. I looked at my calendar pinned on the kitchen door, mechanically crossing the date, 24th of April 2015, before writing a number, 258.
I took an apple before biting it, then pushed the door of my father's office. He was sitting down at his old office as usual, writing his fantasy stories, creating a new world, that now became his reality.
The sound of a car's horn snapped me back to reality, as I ran across the kitchen, briskly taking my bag on my way before widely opening the door. I was relieved to see Stephanie waving at me from the driver's seat, and waited until she stopped the engine.
"You really think I was going to let you go through this alone?", she asked me while offering me one of her rare smile.
I smiled back before jumping on the seat next to her, I just had enough time to close the door and put my seatbelt on, she had already accelerated to 100 km/h. An advice, never drive with Steph if you are scared of rides at show grounds, or if you don't trust her to keep you alive.
We arrived at the school quicker than I imagined (and quicker than I would like to). I was nervous, and as I looked down at my knees, I saw my hands shaking nervously. I took deep breaths to calm myself, as much as I could.
"Are you okay?", Steph asked me with...worry?
"Yeah, I am grand!", I cheerfully replied, a wide smile spread on my face.
She nodded before going out of the car.
I told you I was a good actress!
As soon as I heard the door closing (slamming?), my face became normal again, my eyes expressing my worry.
I took another deep breath before going out of the car as a star, legs first, then pulling myself out of the seat, an eternal (fake) smile carved on my lips.
It was like in these movies, and I truly wished I was in a movie, you know the scene when the popular girl goes out of the car and the world just stops and people just look at her. Well it happened exactly like this, except it wasn't because I was popular, it was because every single rumour circulating in the campus was about...me.
A shiver went through my entire body, like a shock as I saw these unknown faces observing me, sometimes nicely, other times angrily. I entered the main building, going through the alley full of bright red lockers, well-known as "the lovers' corridor" because of the couples' long sessions of making out.
The more I walked down, the more people would look at me, judging me without even knowing me, the more my shoulders curved, as the weight of the world was on my shoulders.
----------------------------
The rest of the morning was horrible, in class I could feel the eyes of people on me, starring at me. During all the classes, I just watched the ticking clock, counting how many seconds I would have to wait until the day ends.
At lunch time, I saw Meghan passing by, and tried to talk to her, but she just walked away. I was slowly realising just because of a lie, I was losing my best friend, and I couldn't stand it.
As I sat down at a table, Steph was the only person sitting next to me. Usually, people even fought to sit with me. I couldn't believe that people just forgot about me just because of a lie!
I had to do something! This is what I had in mind when I climbed the table with my heels, which wasn't an easy task.
"Hum, hello...", I said in a weak voice.
Seeing I didn't have everyone's attention, I shouted.
"Hello!", everybody looked at me like I was crazy, but I didn't care.
"Listen to me! You have all been looking at me, judging me, ignoring me (I looked at Meg as I said this), and I am sorry if I lied to you! But your reaction only makes me feel like you prefer thinking that I prefer sleeping with every guy I know than the right one!"
The crowd looked sheepishly at each other. I sighed before going down the table. A few seconds later, someone shouted "That's why you were alone with this guy, what's his name? Oh yeah, Bryan, Meghan's brother!"
I turned around as quickly as I could, but I couldn't identify who talked. Everybody was still looking at me so I shouted again.
"No way, he is nothing to me! He is such a nerd, have you looked at him? I don't have anything to do with him, what would I even do with a geek?"
Everybody seemed satisfied with my explanation, I was going to turn around as I saw Bryan nodding at me, a disappointed look on his face.
I wanted to tell him I didn't mean it, but I couldn't.
My eyes were pleading for forgiveness.
My heart was screaming sorry, shouting for understanding.
He just looked at me a last time before turning around and walking down the Lovers' Corridor.
I just stood there, my heart beating faster than ever, already wondering if I did a huge mistake. Was my reputation worth lying to everyone...including myself?
