Elaine wasn't sure she could win this fight.

She hadn't fed since that morning. She had no vervain in her, which meant Mikael could compel her to freeze up just like Klaus had. There was nothing stopping him from killing her permanently.

"Finn," she said, gesturing to the next room. "Go."

"Actually," said Mikael coldly, "I am here for him."

"Why?" inquired Elaine. "What could you possibly want with Finn?"

"It's of no concern to you," he sneered. "Stand aside, woman."

She held up her hands, 'oohing' at him mockingly. "Oh, I wasn't aware we were doing that. Come on, man, I'm finally in front of you after a thousand years, and you were about to stake me not two seconds ago. Have you changed your mind? Realized you cannot beat me? I am not moving anywhere, and you are not taking Finn. Simple."

He seemed to have been planning a quick escape. Elaine had a bad feeling Esther had tasked him with a rescue mission, unaware of what could have happened to her son. Mikael wasn't supposed to have been seen, but now he had been. He was just as surprised to see her as she was to see him.

"If it is battle you want, battle you will get," said Mikael, twirling the stake in his hand. "I will enjoy sending your head to your siblings."

"Yeah, that's not really going to work for you, though, is it?" asked Elaine. "You don't exactly have their home or mailing addresses or their phone numbers."

"Elaine," hissed Finn from behind her. "What. Are. You. Doing?!"

She gestured to the other room. "Go over there, where you'll be safe. This ballroom is about to be quite damaged."

"You think so highly of yourself," Mikael taunted, walking closer so he stood over her, spitting in her face. "But you are a simple, stupid girl who cannot match my strength in any way. Given you are not a filthy dog, I saw fit to let you live. Now, you will die suffering at my hand."

"So scary," she said sarcastically. "I am shaking in my wee little boots." She stepped back to begin circling him, slowly removing her earrings and necklace, glad that Finn had decided to leave the room (though the banging sound she could hear suggested he was trying desperately to remove his manacles). "You hunted my siblings and I for a very long time. For something your children forced on us. We did not ask to be compelled as decoys. Inexperienced newly-turned vampires, being turned into bait... and somehow, you never actually got to us, did you, Mikey? We were pretty good at hiding. And you were terrible at seeking. Did it anger you, that we were so good at it? Or were you simply angry that you were led on a false trail?"

"You talk, but you do not fight," said Mikael, following her moves and keeping the stake tight in his hold. "I believe you are stalling. You know you are not mighty enough to defeat me, and instead you await for my children to come and fight with you. You are weak."

"Weak?" she said. "Not at all. I endured childbirth and death while on the run from you. I raised my son while hiding from you. I think you are weak. Unable to find us... it makes you inept. That's what you are, Mikael. An inept old man."

He snapped, making the first move. She dodged with ease, ducking under and coming up as close to him as she could to headbutt him and twist his arm behind his back, ripping the stake away. He elbowed her in the face, kneeing her in the abdomen and nearly causing her to fall to the ground. She straightened up as quickly as she could, attacking and making several slashes at his heart, to neutralize him even temporarily and grant herself and Finn a safe escape. Mikael dodged each time, managing to catch her by the throat.
