"You knew?"

She'd gone to find him immediately, dragging him into her old room where a Silencing Spell still hovered and granted them some privacy.

Finn had blanched at first, then faced the window. "I knew. From the beginning when you first complained about Lucien without telling me why you were so cross. I spoke to Tristan and learned of it. He told me they were trying to keep you out of it. I agreed it was the best course of action, and so, I did not speak of it."

Elaine pursed her lips. "They're your siblings, Finn. We ought not do anything like this behind their backs. You'll need to expose yourself to gain their permission."

"I know," he said. "And I will handle it."

"How... how could you be alright with this?"

"I would never want to lose you because of Rebekah's foolishness. Nor would I want to lose Reynard and Tristan because of Elijah's. These past three months I've finally begun to learn what it's like to have a son. Reynard asks me for advice now... he didn't use to. I'll be damned if I lose the two of you. My death and Kol's caused a domino effect where thousands of vampires— some innocent— died suddenly and unfairly. Tristan and Lucien have the right idea with this. If you all remain linked and I were to lose my siblings, I'd lose all of you, too. Both families, at once. I wouldn't survive it."

"How will you manage it?" inquired Elaine. "Your siblings will be furious..."

"Nonsense. I believe Freya and Kol could help me. Kol does not feel like he needs to turn anyone. He finds no joy in it anymore. And even if he does, I think he'd be fine participating in the spell to have that responsibility washed away. We all feel this is safest. Rebekah will surely do it willingly once we explain our feelings. Elijah will follow her lead if he's a good man— so long as Tristan and Reynard vow that The Strix will still defend him and this family if need be. Which will not be difficult seeing as The Strix would defend you from anything, and with your attachment to the Mikaelsons, it's natural they'd stand by you if you thought it a good cause."

"I can't help but think this is not a good idea," said Elaine. "Tristan brought the entire Strix order into the city. Lucien is doing god knows what to help the plan proceed. This could go badly very quickly."

"Then allow me to handle it," said Finn. "I won't let any harm come to you, Reynard, or Aurora."

"You must know that I cannot possibly stand back and let you handle everything. You'll be seen as a traitor to your siblings. You could be daggered again."

"Not if all goes to plan, my love. Please... trust me."

"I do trust you. It's them I do not trust."

Finn cupped the side of her face. "You need only have faith in your brothers and I, my light. With Freya and Kol agreeing with me from the start... it's only a matter of time before it's accomplished the right way. Without it being seen as betrayal. A precautionary measure, is all. Rebekah and Elijah would understand. As for Niklaus... well, I do wish to know how his meeting with Aurora went."

"Pretty soon after they began talking, I heard them breaking things and entering the throes of passion. It's safe to say the meeting went just fine."

A smirk tugged at Finn's lips. "Well, that bodes well. Surely if they rekindle their relationship, Niklaus will be motivated to unlink Aurora from Rebekah."

"Even if Rebekah and Elijah choose to do this, I highly doubt Niklaus would do it for his own line."

"If anything, we could do a specific spell. Davina was intending to do it for Marcel and Joshua. If we could figure it out... we could throw Lucien into it."
