Forced silence was agonizing.
Her phone was ringing, likely Reynard wanting to know if all was well. She couldn't make a single sound that might trigger the phone to make an emergency call on its own. She couldn't move to turn off the incessant ringing. She couldn't even scratch an itch that developed on her ankle.
The house was quiet. Finn must have gone unconscious from the lack of oxygen. She feared he might be dead. Kol had been dragged away by Marcel, forced to try and fix what had been done to Cami. Davina Claire was there as well, trying to solve the problem. Occasionally, she glanced at the ballroom, where Elaine lay, trembling.
Klaus had left a few hours ago with Hayley, to meet Elijah and Rebekah at the safe house where they'd taken Hope. She wasn't sure if he'd told his sister to cloak the baby or not. She supposed it no longer mattered. It wouldn't be long before she was too crazed to even remember the baby existed.
This was not how she'd wanted to die.
Not that she ever planned to die. She had a son to worry about, a son and a sister who still needed her. She couldn't leave them. Aurora wouldn't survive losing her after a thousand years. Reynard would go ballistic. Tristan and Lucien would declare war on the Mikaelsons. This would only make things worse for Hope. But Elaine knew that Klaus simply wanted her to suffer for what he perceived as her involvement with Esther. He wanted to make Aurora feel a fraction of the pain he felt when she 'broke his heart,' consequences be damned.
She was scared for the hallucinations to start. Scared for what she'd see, memories and visions that would torment her and make her death that much more painful. If she could just get her hands on that injection, she would be fine. Or if Marcel could be kind enough to bring her a vial of Klaus's blood, she would be healed.
But she figured he was under strict orders not to help her.
She occupied herself first with listening. Kol and Davina were chanting first. Then Kol began to tell Davina about a diamond he needed for a spell that would create a dagger capable of taking down Klaus. If only Elaine could speak, she could tell him that as long as he got her the cure she needed, she would have Reynard send over a thousand magical artifacts, each with the power of ten Fauline diamonds.
Cami was moving around the house, trying to ease her nerves. Marcel kept her company, and conveniently prevented her from entering the ballroom. But at last, she heard them moving into the room where Finn's coffin had been placed.
"He stopped our sessions," she heard Cami saying to Marcel. "He stopped helping Esther. I don't remember how these marks got on me, but I don't think he had anything to do with it. And it's because of her. That woman that Klaus bit. What do you know about her?"
"Nothing," said Marcel. "I'd never even heard of her, or whatever 'The Strix' is. But Klaus seems to hate whoever her sister is. All I can infer is that this woman and Finn were together a thousand years ago. And they came to tell Klaus something, but he didn't believe them or trust them."
"And does she deserve to die for that?"
"I don't know. I already heard Kol suggesting they try and remove the compulsion to let her talk to us. Kol doesn't want her to die. Whatever she offered him, he wants it. Needs it, it seems. He said she could free him from Esther but didn't say more. He doesn't trust me. Understandably. But you need to know, that's the same lady that knocked us out the other day when we tried to take down Finn. The same lady who grabbed Hayley's heart and snuck into her mind."
"She was protecting Finn. Surely there was a reason she came here and revealed herself instead of leaving. Someone like her would know that Klaus would hurt her for what she did to Hayley, right? Marcel, I want to know. If there's any way to stop what's happening to me... Finn would know. But he won't help us if this woman dies."
