A Touch of Evil

Reggie and I have been spending time together I'd sneak out of my bedroom window so my brother and dad don't ask questions or he'd sneak in my room and spend the night with me. Getting to know him alone, shows me things that he'd never show me if we were not secretly dating. And this was all before prom, and now... But as most secrets cause more damage when they are found out, I am sure that this will too.

Last night I spent the night with Betty after what happened at Cheryl's she needed a real friend. The two of us wake up and get dressed for the day, me in my typical skinny jeans and black t-shirt only this time I put on my knee high black boots. I lightly do my make up, pulling back from my typical dark and I pull my dirty blond hair into a bun. "You look beautiful, Betty." I say when I see her. She's wearing a pencil skirt, pink with a blue top. Her hair pulled back into her classic pony tail and her lipstick pink as always.

We both go down stairs where we are instantly greeted buy her parents. "Hey, honey. We just wanted you to know, it's gonna be a bit of a late night for us." Mr. Cooper says. Betty nods. "It's going to be a lot of late nights for us. I mean, an accidental drowning, who cares? But the sociopathic son of the wealthiest family in tow murdered? That's a national obsession waiting to happen."

Hal gives his wife a look. "He's barely in his grave, Alice." He shakes his head and stares at us. "Can you warm up the car, Hal? I'll be right out."

"Betty.. You know what I love most about you? It's that you always want to see the good in people."

"Even people like Cheryl Blossom and Veronica Lodge and Archie Andrews."

"But when they betrayed you this weekend, you saw their true colors, didn't you?"

"I did. I definitely did. I can only trust Emilee." She says and she hugs me and I smile at her.

"So no backsliding. No Cheryl, no Veronica and --"

"No Archie." She says finishing her moms sentence. We make our way out the door when Mrs. Cooper leaves. I look at Betty as we find our self standing outside Archie's house. "You can go ahead Emilee. I need to talk to Archie alone. Thank you for being there for me last night, you are the only one that I can count on and I really appreciate it." I nod.

"I love you Bets. See you at school." We hug and I head off in the direction of school and she walks up the steps and rings Archie's doorbell.

I find my locker and change out some of my books for classes that I have today. The past couple days I've been seeing the Serpents around town more, usually at night when I am walking the block. There's one in particular that I keep running into and I just can't get him out of my head. It makes things awkward when I have to pretend to not like them.

Betty gets called to the office, and I see her and Kevin walk past my English class and head to the office together. I really hope things are okay between everyone. "Miss. Keller, what's so important out there?" I look at Mr. Johnson. "Nothing sorry." I return to looking back at the board as he continues his lesson.

The bell rings dismissing us to our next class. I happen to have free period so I gather my things and head to the student lounge.

"Good morning, Students. This is your principal speaking. There have been many inquiries about the upcoming pep rally. So let me state clearly...it is happening as scheduled. Now, on a less felicitous note.. if you could give your attention to sheriff Keller." I look up at the speaker when I hear my dad mentioned as if I could look at him.

"Most of you already know the details...but your classmate Jason Blossom's body was found late Saturday night. So as of the weekend....Jason's death is now being treated as a homicide. It is open and ongoing investigation." Cheryl suddenly speaks and I roll my eyes, no longer really interested in what is going on until I hear my dad speaking again.
