"Big sister, where's Touya? He promised that he'd play with me today." Fuyumi sighed, having full knowledge of what their other sibling was currently being put through.
"He's, he's with father right now, I'm sorry. Maybe you can go play with Shoto instead?"
"I guess so, but Touya is funner." This sent her elder sister into a fit of giggles. The younger girl pouted and waited for her to calm down. "Also, I can't find him, or Natsuo either."
"Well, that is a bit of a problem, isn't it?" She outstretched her arm towards her sister, who intertwined their fingers. "I'll help you find them, maybe the four of us can go play tag outside or something."
"Okay! I'll play with Touya tomorrow then."
"Yeah," the elder looked down at the smiling girl who was pulling her through the hallway. "Hopefully father gives him a break, otherwise Hamako will be so disappointed."
"Big brother Natsuo! There you are, we were looking for you!"
"What? Why?" The boy jumped up from his seat, looking around nervously, almost as if he thought he was in trouble.
"We wanna go play outside! Also do you know where Shouto is?"
"Oh, sure, I'd be up for that and no, I don't know where he is. He's probably in your guys' room though, that's where he is most of the time."
"Good idea!" The girl held out her hand to him and smiled when he wrapped it in his own. "Let's go get him then!" She skipped towards her and her twins' shared room, her two siblings trailing behind. Once she reached the door, she turned the handle slightly, barely making a sound. Then she kicked it open, screaming, "Shoutoooo! Let's go play!" The group of three started laughing when her demand was met with a scared, high-pitched scream.
The loudness from that room drew the attention of their nervous grandmother. "You four need to be quieter, you do not want to upset your father, right?" The siblings frowned at this, recalling the times he had yelled at them. "If you want to be loud, go outside at least."
"That's what we were gonna do grandma. Do you want to go with us too?" The other children looked at her oodly, their grandmother wasn't their first choice for a playmate.
The older woman looked down at her granddaughter, cursing the girl for being so cute. "I suppose someone has to look after you children, but don't rope me into your games this time."
"Okay," she smiled wider. It was at this time Aiya Hatori figured she had made a grand mistake, this was definitely not good for her arthritis.
"Natsuo, pass the ball to me!" The boy nodded and kicked the rubber ball to his younger brother. Shouto leapt up to catch it, but his four-year old height was too short to reach it. The ball landed ten feet away from the group.
"I'll get it!," Hamako yelled, running after the red ball. Right before she got to it, someone else picked it up. She tilted her head up and found herself in her father's cold gaze. As soon as she looked into his turquoise eyes, she flinched away. He then handed her the ball and walked away once she had it in her grasp. She ran back to her siblings and grandmother who held shocked expressions similar to her own. "Wait if father isn't with Touya, does that mean I can play with him?!"
"He might just be having a break, you don't want to-," the girl ran to the house doors. "Hamako, wait!"
Hamako walked through the hallways of the house, once more in search of her elder brother. She went into the family room, but it was empty. So was the kitchen, all of her siblings rooms, and the washrooms. There was only one place left to look, a secret place that she had once followed Touya into. She ran down another hallway, the sound of her slippers being the only noise in the entire building. She stood on her tiptoes and her hands reached for a bronze door knob. The door opened and the girl skipped through the pantry, lined from top to bottom in preserved foods.
At the back of it was a large box that took Hamako a lot of time and effort to move. Left in behind it was a small door, maybe two feet tall and one and a half wide. She opened it and crawled through, pulling the box back into place behind her. In front of her was a boy with red hair writing on something the girl couldn't see. "Touya, what are you doing?"
The boy whipped around at lightning speed, calming down when it registered in his mind that it was only her. "Hamako, don't scare me like that."
"Sorry," a giggle escaped her lips. "Whatcha doing?" She tried to peak around him.
"Nothing!," he shrieked, shoving some papers into a blue bag.
"Are those cards? Do you have a secret girlfriend?"
"What?!," he dropped the bag, spilling cards and envelopes all over the floor.
"I'll help you clean it up."
"Wait, no!" He shielded the mess from the girl, picking the papers himself instead.
"Aw.. Why can't I see?" She jumped, pouting.
"You'll see it someday, okay? When I'm finished."
"Okay," Hamako replied, still saddened, but pleased. A muffled chime was heard from the outside of their small hideout. The two then climbed out of the room, remembering to clean up the evidence that they were ever there. Touya grabbed onto his younger sister's hand, leading her back to the bedroom she and Shouto shared.
"Goodnight big brother." The four year old reached up to him and he wrapped his arms around her, dropping the bag onto the floor before leaving.
