❝nodes of feelings form a link

"...and finally, how are you feeling? nothing out of the ordinary?"
"no. for the most part i feel normal."
the printer inside of the doctor's office started up at the click of a mouse. the whirring of the machine continued until everything the doctor needed was printed.
posters pertaining to cephalopod anatomy were hung up on the walls. flower has scanned them countless times now. the diagrams of brains, their hearts, the way they breathed and produced ink were all embedded into their mind.
they were taunting them.
"alright. before you go," the doctor started as they placed the paperwork in flower's hands. "remember that you're not fully well yet. don't go pushing yourself in any turf wars or ranked battles you find yourself in. the last thing we want is for you to put any more stress on the—"
"yep, yep! got it! don't worry, doc. i can handle myself now," flower quickly reassured her as they haphazardly shoved the paperwork away in their bag. god, please, not another lecture.
the doctor nodded, albeit skeptical. "if you say so. well then, i'll see you next month."
"mhm! bye-bye, doctor!" they planted the flower crown back on top of their head, adjusting the angle of it so that it was exactly how they preferred it.
flower couldn't have walked back to the front desk fast enough. after making sure that everything was in order and confirming the date of their next visit, they stepped out of the clinic.
finally.
they got out of that damned place.
flower breathed a sigh of relief. the mandatory monthly check-ups were there for a reason and they understood that, yet knowing that fact didn't make it any less miserable for them. their hand rummaged through their bag, searching for their phone and headset—
—and came into contact with the papers.
"... oh yeah. need to get these to the pharmacy," flower mumbled to themselves bitterly.
they slid their headset on and trudged along the sidewalk. the misery didn't end at the clinic, oh no. flower has to get their prescriptions at the pharmacy after their check-up as well.
at least music made it a bit more bearable.

a pleasant autumn breeze cooled down the streets of inkopolis. cephalopods and jellyfish crowded the reef, looking for something to cure their boredom for the weekend. nothing special was really going on, even for the staff and visitors of café staccato.
thanks to the family that ran it, the café was as lively as ever. though they still talked about viable strategies and sharing tips, the square king cup was a hot topic for battlers that stopped by for a quick beverage or pastry in between battles. according to their gossip, a single team's won the tournament three years in a row now. even the teams that flower has substituted for are constantly talking about it even months after the tournament ended.
as for the music-oriented visitors... well, there was always a variety of topics that they talk about. it always changes with each week. lately they've been going on about new songs released by online producers, shows they plan to attend or hold, and advice on how to improve their own music. there was something that almost all of them could relate to, however, and that was their father's music.
