Penelope's POV

As I open my eyes, all I can see is the darkness surrounding me.

'Where am I? A dream? Or a replay of my memories?'

Just like other creatures, vampires are also obligated to take some rest or sleep to recharge their energy. It's not easy to stand in the daylight for the entire day for a vampire.

When a vampire sleep, their mind will usually replay memory from their past since it is quite rare for a vampire to dream. But, for me, it is quite confusing since I have no recollection of certain memories. There are times when I completely gape perplexed at the scenes that were being displayed during my rest.

Currently one of those confusing scenes is replaying in my mind. I can see myself with a man, sitting next to each other, talking intimately, him holding my hand softly as if my hand was made of glass. His face was blurry as always. His voice is muffled until I can barely listen to his voice even with my superior hearing.

This scene would always come out with us closing up the gap between us for a kiss before my eyes turn red. Those eyes will roll toward me before showing my sharp fangs, and finally sinking into his neck. His blood trailed down to his back from the bite wound.

My dead heart automatically stings after watching his motionless body thump down to the floor, while the past me stare at his body emotionless. As I slowly regain my consciousness, I can see my past self mouthing his name.

"Co-"

I woke up to see my younger sister's face near to my face.

"Are you okay, dear sister? The usual nightmare?" Felicity Featherington asked me as she must have seen me trembling around during my slumber.

"You know that we vampires cannot have dreams or nightmares, right? But I certainly do not remember anything about that memory. Do you think we can have the same nightmare for years? Consider it is quite rare for fantasy creatures like us to dream, but the same one for more than a hundred years" I inquired her since my head begin to ache from the thinking.

Felicity just shrugs for an answer before dismissing herself to go to the kitchen.

"The cooks have done preparing dinner. Mother asks me to call you down. She instructed me to remind you to wear a magnificent dress tonight since there will be special guests invited"

I groan as I remembered those special guests that were invited for dinner tonight. In this town, three vampire clans have existed for centuries such as the Featherington, Cowper, and Fife. Nevertheless, Featherington has always been a comrade for both families. It is quite nice to know that you have someone you can rely on, even if you cannot tolerate their presence.

There are other clans in another town, for example, the Crane. The head of the clan is Sir George Crane, he stayed at his mansion with his mate, Lady Marina, and his children meanwhile his brother, Philip Crane stays in this town for his research. Philip is one of the people that I consider my friend. Until now he try to create an alternate supply instead of blood for vampires. He has also been researching whether a vampire can turn into a human. I always give my support to him even if I think that might be impossible.

As I walked down the unnecessary huge staircase in the mansion, I prompt myself to stay calm for the night during the interaction with the guests. Usually, vampire clans will gather around if and only if there is some sort of emergency that undoubtedly harm our existence in this town. I do not want to see anyone after the dream if I can choose, especially her.

Someone would have assumed that Cressida Cowper, the only daughter of Lord Cowper might be more mature after all those centuries. Yet she is still the same person, I met before. Annoyingly selfish, vile, and all of the bad behavior that I can list.
