Drowning

Chapter 4

Marinette's parents both left to get her some extra clothes and toiletries for the morning. Meanwhile, Adrien had fallen asleep. The last time he looked at a clock before he fell asleep, it was 2:36 am.

Adrien woke up, a little disoriented. He checked the clock and it was now 4:15 am. 'Great...' He thought. Now he would never fall asleep.

Marinette grunted in pain as she awoke.

Adrien's head shot up. He was so happy to see her awake.

The first thing she saw was Adrien, but it took her a moment to realize she was in a hospital. "What happened?" Everything was a little fuzzy. The last thing she remembered was when she and Cat Noir were fighting a villain together and she fell into the Seine.

"You fell into the Seine while Ladybug and Cat Noir were fighting a villain. Cat Noir rescued you." He tried to keep his voice steady. He knew she was fine now but at that moment, he thought he lost her. That broke his heart into a million pieces.

"How did you know I was here?"

"I was there when it happened." His voice quavered. He couldn't hold back the tears anymore. He wanted to tell her he was Cat Noir, but he knew it wasn't what she wanted. If he told her, she could end up in the hospital again, or worse! He couldn't let that happen. He loved her.

She'd never seen Adrien cry before. Ever. 'I guess I never realized how much he cared about me.' She thought to herself. She reached for his hand, then gripped it tightly.

Adrien was taken aback. He looked into her eyes and smiled. He felt comforted by her touch. Before he could even think the words spilled from his lips. "I love you."

Her face flushed as her mouth hung agape. "W-what?" she stuttered in shock. She couldn't believe the words that just come out of his mouth.

Adrien reddened in embarrassment. "I'm sorry. I don't know why I said that." He chuckled nervously.

"Is it true? Do you love me?" Her heart raced in anticipation. She'd been waiting for him to tell her he loved her since the day they met.

Adrien paused. He just hoped this didn't ruin their friendship. "Yes, it's true."
