Y/N sighed as she opened her classroom door, having not slept since the USJ incident four days prior. Her weary gaze swept over the unusually empty room; typically, the students arrived before her. It took her a moment to realize she was 45 minutes early.
With a shrug, she acknowledged her mistake in reading the clock on her phone but felt indifferent to checking it again. Settling at her desk, she rested her head and instinctively shut her eyes, only to snap them open upon realizing she was dozing off.
Her sleep had been scarce, plagued by recurring nightmares that haunted her nights. These dreams, woven from past and recent memories, often left her waking with a start, in tears, or in utter terror. Truthfully, she feared closing her eyes, uncertain of what to do or where to turn, tormented by memories she wished to erase.
She was surviving on caffeine and sheer willpower, though caffeine was the dominant force. To compound her troubles, she had started her period that morning, and it was a disaster, creating a mess everywhere. As a result, she was not only sleep-deprived but also in pain, lacking appetite, and in a foul mood. To top it off, she was disheveled; her hair was unruly, and all her laundry was dirty. She had to do laundry before school and wear unclean clothes.
Resigned, she sat up, debating whether to stare out the window or wander around the school to prevent further mental turmoil. Deciding on the latter, she stood, grabbed her backpack, and exited the room.
As she meandered through the corridors, weaving between other students, a picture on the wall caught her eye. It was unusual for her to take notice of such things, but this image captivated her attention.
The photograph depicted two girls, both donning the school's gym uniform, their smiles radiant as they embraced each other side by side, gold and silver medals adorning their necks. The girl with the gold medal, in particular, looked remarkably similar to her, with black hair and purple eyes—the only notable difference being the eye color. Yet, she was certain it wasn't her; the girl in the photo resembled a younger version of her mother. She bore a strong likeness to her mother, after all. The other girl was unfamiliar to her.
She was unaware that her mother had attended this school, let alone that she had excelled, securing first place. She was well aware of her mother's prowess with her quirk, having often been on the receiving end of it. However, her mother had never mentioned attending UA or shared much about her past and childhood. She was quite secretive, particularly towards her 'child'.
Y/N's frown deepened as an image of her mother surfaced in her mind, prompting her to shake her head, attempting to dispel the thought. She harbored no fondness for her mother, who had been the primary source of her suffering.
Turning away, she allowed her feet to guide her, destination unknown. It was only when she snapped back to reality that she realized she had been led to the cafeteria, greeted by the inviting aromas of food and coffee.
