|>| INTERMISSION
Hello everyone. I know the youtube video won't play on here, but I really do suggest you listen to the song before reading, or at least after reading. It's a really perfect song. Anyway, that concludes this very brief interruption. You may continue. :)

They say she went insane.

I heard the whispers in the hallways, concerned and afraid patients and confused doctors and nurses. Apparently, nobody knew exactly what happened to her. But for the big picture: she had been in the hospital for a week, the whole time her wounds covered and dripping with red and black liquid. She was comatose for most of the time, plagued with fever-ridden nightmares. Then she suddenly woke up, dragged herself out of her hospital bed, and ran out of the room screaming. She didn't make it far; only getting down the hallway before her injuries forced her to collapse. She spoke her last few words as she died, and that was it. There's different ideas of what her last words were. Some say they were "God have mercy." Others say they were something around "Finally I am free." or "No one is safe." "They will come for you." "Tell my family that I love them." And the ever-classic. "Help me."

I don't know which are real- if any are. And I don't care. All I know is that she broke Jake.

She broke him and I don't know how to fix him. I don't know how to fix humans, I only know how to fix robots (which are a lot less complicated).

I told Dave and Karkat to go home. They were old enough to be by themselves. And I could always ask my friend Roxy to check on them if I needed to.

After they had left, a horrible silence filled the room. It felt horribly wrong to have no noise when I was so used to always having it. But the space the noise would have filled remained empty.

I moved quietly to sit down on the hospital bed. Jake didn't protest when I pulled him close and kissed his forehead. He didn't speak, but he grabbed my hand and held on tightly. He let me pull him to lay down with me and draped his arm across my chest. I was absently playing with his hair when my eyes wandered towards the window. The sun had already set and now the sky was painted in a shade of dark blue, covered with little white stars. Staring out at the small glimpse of night sky I could see I got an idea. A smile began to spread on my lips. "Hey Jake?"

I got a muffled response that I assumed was "Yes?" I continued, despite Jake being half asleep. "Do you want to go on a date tomorrow? Like, an actual one, not just a sleepover at the hospital."

Jake looked up, his green eyes distant and dull. "Okay." He agreed anyway, despite the lack of enthusiasm about it. "Come on Jake. It'll be fun, I promise." I smiled, trying to get one back from him. It worked.

I curled up next to Dirk, enjoying the feeling of his warmth against my skin. He put his arm around my shoulders, and I laid my head against his chest.

Maybe tomorrow would be better. Especially if I spent the day with Dirk. With no worries or cares in the world, because it would just be the two of us. Nothing else.

I fell asleep with a smile on my face, and hopes for a better tomorrow in my head.

I don't think I've ever woken up screaming before now.
