-Amelia's POV-
"Amelia!"
The joint call of my name made me turn my head to the door from my medical bed.
It's been a few days since I've come back home and I couldn't be more glad about it. My body was still weak and aching and sleep was almost nonexistent but still, to be back to those who love and care for me, who came for me, I had never felt safer than now.
Lara and Katie rushed to my side, their concern was sweet and somewhat calming. "I thought you had died!" Katie suddenly exclaims and bursts into tears while shaking my arm. Lara and I laughed at her exaggeration, something we were used to but I knew that if any more time had passed while I was there, it wouldn't be an exaggeration at all.
They caught me up with what little I had missed at school, most of it being drama rather than lesson content but I wasn't going to complain. They tried asking me a little about what happened while I was taken but just as my parents had advised, I kept it at a minimum and there was a set script on how I was rescued. As much as I'd love to say that my parents murdered my kidnappers, it wouldn't go down well, I knew that much well and clear.
"How's Francis?" I then asked after a bit. I felt a bit guilty about leaving him the way I had on the day and then not being able to get back to him when I returned.
My mother told me that she had spoken to him the day I had gone missing and they had acted after that. As embarrassing as it was to admit I was going over to a guy's house that day, and as disapproving my father was towards it, they were grateful to have someone confirm their suspicions and if I was there rather than taken, they would have been thankful for it. Unfortunately, though, I hadn't made it there on time.
After asking my question, I realised that both of my friends had gotten quiet which was weird. Lara looked towards by window with a stoic look on her face while Katie looked down sadly.
"Did something happen to him?" I asked worriedly after not getting a reply and their faces changed once again. Lara looked down angrily while Katie bit her lip, looking at Lara as if asking to be able to say something.
I held Katie's hand which made her look back at me and through my eyes, I told her to, 'tell me' and she sighed.
"Nothing happened to him! He's doing well!" She told me and although I knew there was more to it, I was glad he was okay-
"Yeah, well enough to get a girlfriend," Lara continued.
My breath stopped in my throat at her words. Looking at her face slowly, she looked at me with a face as if to say that she was sorry but he deserved nothing from me. And she should have been right.
She should have been.
But the way my chest sunk was hard to ignore. Prince was right.
Either way, I smiled, "Oh," I said finally forcing anything to come out through my voice at that point. "I'm glad for him!"
"But he said he lov-" Katie began which made it all so much worse. I'm sure Lara saw that too because she stopped her.
"We'll be with you for as long as you need," She said, her message of reassurance being a strong one. I nodded and smiled weakly, appreciating it greatly and pushing aside the feeling of dread towards seeing him in school again once I've healed.
She was about to continue when my door opened. A part of me had hoped it was Francis, despite what I had just heard but reality knocked some sense in me when it wasn't him.
