The large submarine pushed through the water with heavy metal propellers.
Inside, Varian peeked out the round window to see a small squid swimming by. He sighed, grinning. "I'm never going to get any work done with this stunning aquatic view." He was holding a test tube in each hand, one held bright green liquid while the other bright purple.
Hugo leaned down and placed a soft kiss on his cheek. "Are you sure that's the only thing distracting you?"
Varian tilted his chin up and brushed Hugo's lips with his own. "Mm, there's something else, but I can't put my finger on it." A bit of liquid from the test tube spilled out onto the counter, starting a small fire. "Whoops!"
Hugo grabbed a nearby bottle and sprinkled it over the fire, putting it out, then took Varian by the waist in the same motion. "You need to be more careful. You aren't following proper lab safety." As he brought Varian in for a kiss, Hugo knocked a beaker off the counter with his elbow which shattered everywhere.
Unperturbed by the noise, they basked in one another's embrace.
In the background stood Nuru and Yong with exasperated looks on their faces.
"They're gonna be the end of us," Nuru said as another fire started and something else began smoking and beeping while Hugo and Varian stood in the middle of it all, holding each other, their lips pressed together.
