“So…my sire is taking me on a flying lesson tonight.”

Whirl and Hot Shot did a double take at the sudden info.

“Your sire’s gonna let you fly the Jackhammer?!” Whirl asked, her voice high in excitement.

Hoist shrugged, “I don’t know if I’m flying, but for sure my sire is going to show me.”

Hot Shot twisted his face in skepticism, “And the humans are okay with that?”

The aqua mechling nodded, “Yeah! My sire asked Optimus, who asked the top humans, who said it was fine, so long as we stay close and fly low.” A large grin spead across Hoist’s cheeks, “I’m finally going to fly in the Jackhammer!” He gave a little bounce at the thought of ridding and eventually flying his father’s beloved ship.

Whirl clapped as she bounced along, “Hoist I’m so excited for you!” She gave a little giggle as Hoist basked in the praise.

The Jackhammer was Wheeljack’s most prized possession -other than his family of course- and save for Quickslinger, he never allowed anyone else to fly it, so him offering his son the chance to do so was a pretty big deal.

“Is Wheeljack going to let Strongarm fly the ship too?” Whirl asked, glancing around to find the femme in question.

Hoist shook his head, “Our sired asked if she wanted to come too, but she turned down the offer.” He gave a little shrug, “I guess its okay, since she’s already had her lesson. Still…it would have been nice to have her there.”

“Is your carrier going?” Hot Shot asked.

“She would have is Strongarm had gone along, but since she’s not, my carrier thought it would be better if sire and I went alone.” Hoist shrugged again.

Sire-mechling time!” Whirl concluded with a warm smile.

“Basically, yeah.” Hoist agreed.

Hot Shot scoffed, “Lucky you.”

Whirl gave the young fire-bot a reassuring pat, “Don’t worry Hot Shot. You’ll get your chance. Just stay positive, and don’t stop trying!” A flash of green and white caught the femmeling’s optic, and she motioned to Roadbuster, “Look at Roadbuster. He’s been chasing Strongarm for vorns, and he hasn’t given up…even though Strongarm is clearly interested in Chase- but that’s beside the point!” Whirl’s voice dropped before waving her hand in dismissal.

“Whirl’s right! If you’re gonna want your sire to accept you, you’re gonna have to push harder to break the ice.” Hoist added.

Hot Shot tilted his head in confusion, “Break the ice? Hoist, I’m trying to connect with my sire, not push him away!”

“It’s a human expression. There’s an invisible barrier between you and your sire that you have to break in order to get through to him.” Whirl explained.

“Oh!” Hot Shot hunched over in embarrassment. “Yeah. I-I’ll keep doing that.” He looked down and shuffled a foot a bit before changing the subject, “But going back to what you said about Strongarm and Chase…Hoist, you might wanna tell your sister to stop wasting her time with Chase, cause her and him…it’s not going to happen.”
