The ship was deadly quiet as we continued our way through the fog, navigating in between cliffs and rocks. Jay's head was still twitching as he held his eyes closed. Everywhere the crew was crouched down or thrashing around as if something was pulling on them.
"Hold the helm," Jiyeon whispered quietly and I glanced at her.
She slowly let go of the helm as her eyes were transfixed on a certain point. Following the direction of her eyes I eventually noticed Jungwon. He was shaking uncontrollably and each time his leg would sneak out between the logs in the railing he had to force it back in again as if it was some immensely exhausting action.
Jiyeon quietly left my side to walk across the deck quietly, rushing to crouch down by Jungwon, where he had been tied up. Her arms immediately wrapped around his shoulders as she pulled him into her. His shaking and involuntary leg motions didn't stop though, instead it almost seemed like he was snapping at her, telling her all sorts of things that made the corners of her lips point downward as she watched him in silence. He looked insane.
"Yeon?" I called out and she immediately stood up to look up at me, "when do we throw the anchor?" I questioned and her lips pursed as she looked straight ahead, rushing out towards the front of the ship and looking down over the railing.
"There's still too many Sirens around the ship, throwing the anchor here will be a death sentence to the whole crew," she excused and I nodded quietly as I tightened my grip on the helm.
"I'm gon..-" a murmur came nearby and my eyes snapped down to Jay, whose head had stopped twitching and was now just lulling his head back and forth between his shoulders, "I'm gonna kw-..."
"Jay?" I hesitantly called out and his head lulled a bit more to one side before one of his legs abruptly kicked out after me and I had to jump to the side to not get tackled down, "what the hell!" I exclaimed at him in confusion.
"I'm gonna kill you," he muttered and I looked at him in confusion as he just continued to glare at me, "I'm gonna kill you!"
"Yeon?" I called out and she quickly turned around while I kept my eyes fixated on Jay, who was wildly kicking out after me, thrashing around enough to possibly loosen the rope on his wrists.
"I'm gonna kill you, you bitch!" Jay continued as I had to step away from the helm completely to not get tackled by him.
"Soo! The helm!" Jiyeon called out and I quickly looked up to see us heading right for a cliff.
I was quick to reach out and grab the helm, pulling it to the left, in order for us to avoid the cliff. Shortly after I had pulled on the helm my side was met by the cold hard wood underneath my feet. Jay had managed to kick my feet away from under me and was trying to pull me closer by looping his legs around one of mine.
"Jiyeon!" I screamed out and soon enough Jiyeon had rushed up the stairs to us, holding a bucket in one of her hands.
Within seconds she had swung the bucket down upon the back of Jay's head and whacked him out successfully. I was breathing heavily due to the sudden adrenaline rush Jay's action had given me, meanwhile Jiyeon was most likely panting slightly from having to run across the deck and up the stairs to hit Jay with the bucket.
"What the hell was that about?" I murmured in shock as Jiyeon dropped the bucket down once again, keeping her eyes on Jay for a second before she rushed over to grab the helm, "what happened to him?"
"It's the sirens," Jiyeon murmured as I slowly tried to get up on my feet, rolling my shoulder an extra time to loosen it up from the impact it had gotten just a few moments prior, "gets into their mind. They know they can't touch us, but that doesn't mean the boys can't," she whispered, "same thing was happening to Jungwon."
I quietly got up on my feet once again and leaned my hands on the railing in front of me as I watched the crew. Jungwon was still sitting, shaking, moving his leg out over the railing every once in a while. But now he had also resorted to shooting both Jiyeon and I a glare - that could kill.
"If they get the chance they'll infiltrate each of their minds one by one," Jiyeon murmured as she glanced around, uneasily, "it's just a question about who is the next than when is the next."
My eyes immediately moved over towards Sunghoon, he stood still against the mast, pressing his forehead into the moist wood as he held his eyes tightly closed. Within seconds he had crouched down, arms above his head as his shoulders began shaking.
"They'll all be fine, it's just a question about time," Jiyeon whispered, "once we reach the island they can't influence them anymore."
"Isn't there anything that can pull them out of it?" I questioned, noticing how Sunghoon began banging his head against the mast.
"We'll have to overpower the song of the Sirens in their head," she reminded me with a small shake of the head.
"So we sing," I offered and she glanced at me, "what? Don't pirates have shanties for when times are tough or they have to celebrate?"
"They do," she nodded quietly, "but none that are supposed to be sung by a woman," she excused making me snort.
"Who cares if it's supposed to be sung by a man, how does it go?" I questioned and she glanced at me.
"It's the same verse sung over and over," she murmured, "that's the only one I know... because it is so simple."
"Then we sing that," I nodded at her, "I'll stand and sing on the deck, if you sing the verse first I'll pick up on it."
"Soomin-" she started and I shook my head as I stepped over Jay's legs and rushed down onto the middle of the deck.
"Give it a shot before you deny it!" I urged and she sighed before pursing her lips and I kept looking at her with expectation.
"My mother told me
Someday I will buyGalley with good oars
Sail to distant shores
Stand up on the prow
Noble barque I steerSteady course to the haven
Hew many foe-men"Jiyeon quietly looked down at me with the corners of her lips turned down, almost as if she was scared, meanwhile I only nodded encouragingly at her - telling her to go once more.
"My mother told me," I, myself, began singing and Jiyeon sighed before just joining in on me.
"Someday I will buy
Galley with good oarsSail to distant shores"
I sucked in a deep breath before getting ready to continue, glancing around and watching as Sunghoon's head stilled and we continued."Stand up on the prow
Noble barque I steer"
I quietly began walking out towards the front of the ship, trying to look for the island up ahead."Steady course to the haven
Hew many foe-men"
I quietly paused in my steps and squinted my eyes closed, managing to make out figures in the distance, which had me running back across deck towards Jiyeon, who was about to start singing once again."There's a boat bridge!" I called out and she snapped her head down to me, "there's a boat bridge!"
"Where?" she immediately questioned.
"Up ahead!" I yelled out and gestured forward, "I could see it! We'll be there soon!"
"Buckle up Soo, we're heading for that because I need my boys back," Jiyeon murmured as I rushed back out to the front of the ship once again to help guide her.
