sorry that this chapter is short.......
Alberto lay against a tall tree, most likely a great pine tree to be specific. Alberto laid there asleep, his hair all messy, his face decorate of sleep. The only thing that could possibly awake him could be a loud noi-
CHOOOOOO
"AH WHAT THE-" Alberto screamed at the train whistle.
Alberto, now fully awake look at his surroundings and then rubbed his eyes from his sleep. He groaned as he stood up and stretched out all the tension and knot build up from the sleep away.
Once Alberto felt like he was fully awake he took in a deep breath and softly let the breath out. The air smelt like late summer, wet grass and pine. This smell was very familiar to Alberto, being that this was usually the smell her would wake up to every day. Alberto brushed his right hand through his hair and looked around the forest a bit before turning around back at the tree he had been moments ago sleeping against, to grab his satchel bag. He opened the bag and pulled out an apple to eat as he waited for the next train to arrive.
"I wonder where this train will take me today" Alberto said to himself and he reached back into his bag to grab a map.
"Maybe I'll go somewhere smaller today, yesterday was quite a big place to be, especially busy too" Alberto added.
Alberto looked along his map and ran his finger along a long line that was frequently shown on the map, this line was to represent all the train tracks in Italy. Alberto ran his finger along one of the many long lines that was closet to where he marked himself to be currently. With a bit of math and some wild guessing, he rested his finger on a place while it read
La città di Turin
Meaning "The city of Turin"
Alberto raised an eyebrow in confusion then spoke, "What is "Turin"?".
Alberto reached into his bag again and reached for a book that had bold Italian writing on it saying "10 of the most popular cities in Italy". (IDK HOW POPULAR GENOVA IS SO DONT COME AT ME IF IM WRONG 🥹)
Alberto opened the small book and saw the name "Turin" as number 3. Alberto flipped a few pages before reaching an area that spoke about Turin. Many words that were spoken in the chapter were, ocean, food, local and weather. Turin had a surprisingly good marine area with amazing food all over the city, the locals seemed to be very nice people and the weather was almost always good! Alberto smiled and thought maybe this would be it, no more traveling from dusk till dawn, no more sleeping against trees or in trains as a replacement for a bed.
Alberto thought about this some more before hearing the sound of chugging in the distance coming near him, he knew that it was a train. Alberto quickly shut the book and put it back in his satchel before he closed the bag shut. Alberto walked closer to the train tracks and waited. Once the train had came close, the speed of the train passing Alberto had blown a breeze that had blowed back some of Alberto's honey comb curls along with his hat, which Alberto thankfully caught before it blew off. Alberto chuckled to himself before throwing himself into an open hay stack train car and rolling back onto his knees.
Alberto then stood up and made himself comfortable by sitting close to the edge of the train car entrance with his map and the apple he had been eating earlier. As he sat, he allowed his hair to blow in the morning breeze and to let the cuffs of his overalls blow in a similar rhythm.
After a few minutes of just sitting, Alberto unravelled his map and ran his finger along the line towards Turin. He began to do some math while he ate his apple to guess how long the train ride would take. He followed the line and started adding minutes to every movement. "Hm.." Alberto said. " seems like it'll take me more than just a day to get to Turin.." Alberto said with a slight sad tone.
Alberto then close the map and stood up to walk towards his satchel. Alberto then knelt down and put the map inside, but during the process Alberto came across a pendant that was attached to a bright silver chain. Alberto picked it up and glanced at it sternly unaware of why it was in his bag. That's when Alberto realized what it was. It was the necklace that his father gave to his mother when they first met. Alberto remembered this necklace well. it's because his mom never took it off. She wore it as if her life would be meaningless without it. That is, the only reason Alberto had it was because when his mom was on her deathbed, she shakily gave it to him and said "Oh my sweet boy. It hurts me to say that I'm going to be leaving you like this. But you know, if you promise to always keep this necklace near you, I promise whenever you need me I'll always be there for you.".
Remembering that these were some of the last words Alberto's mom had ever said to him brought tears to his eyes. Alberto held tight to the necklace and leaned against the wall of the train car and sobbed. His emotions had change so fast from the glance of the necklace, Alberto didn't even notice. Alberto opened his eyes then whimpered out "Mom.." he paused.
" If you can hear me... i'm sorry, I would have never left if you were here..".
