Mirabel was about to speak when a loud voice from outside startled her.
"Mirabel!" The voice seemed elderly, meaning it was most likely Alma Madrigal who called her. The girl walked towards the door after hiding the shards in her satchel. But instead of opening the door she turned to me and mouthed; "help me".
I tilted my head in confusion, but then understood what she meant. Maybe Alma had heard the shouting from the room about all this Bruno nonsense, and was about to give her another lecture.
I only shrugged, knowing there wasn't much I could do. She opened the door. "Yes Abuela?" She asked. I walked closer to her to glance over her shoulder, where I saw the woman standing by the railing in front of Mirabel's room.
"It's almost lunch and I still have absolutely no idea where Isabela is! Have you seen her at all today?" She questioned, clearly in a hurry. I was guessing that the engagement party was tonight.
"Oh yeah, I stuffed her in my closet. Don't worry." Mirabel playfully grinned as she crossed her arms.
"Mirabel-"
"Okay, okay. I have absolutely no idea where she is. I mean she didn't even go to breakfast." The girl sighed in defeat, before her abuela looked at me. I thought I was about to die at that point. Her stare was more of a death stare to me. Who knew any abuela could pull that off?
"If I did see her this morning, I wouldn't keep it from you or anything. Was she acting okay for the past few days? I wasn't able to talk to her." I stepped beside Mirabel so she could hear me better.
"Well," Alma started. "She was a little off. Isa would start zoning out a lot, and spend most of her time hidden in her room." Her eyes that were once annoyed turned worried.
Even I was worried. Isabela had some drama going on, from what I last heard. She was supposed to marry Mariano Guzman, the heartthrob of the town. But she was already in a secret relationship with Bobo. She still wanted to make her family proud, so she agreed to the marriage.
I felt bad that I was busy for the past few days and couldn't help her with her own situation. But again, how am I supposed to help her with that?
After everything was quiet and awkward for some seconds, I decided to speak up. "Well, maybe me and Mirabel could find Isabela so that you can go back to preparing for the engagement?" I smiled at the old woman.
"How did you-" I cut her off as I spoke again.
"She told me not long ago. We are friends, after all." I explained, before she smiled. That was unusual, I haven't seen her smile in ages.
"Thank you, (Y/N). But Mirabel can't help you." Alma glared at her granddaughter. "Mirabel, you still haven't finished your chores from yesterday! Come on." The elder gestured for the curly haired girl to follow her out into the hallway. Mirabel looked back and silently apologized, leaving me alone in the room.
I sighed loudly, falling back onto Mirabel's bed as I stared at the ceiling. It was pretty boring that I had to do this on my own. I mean, my life has been boring for a while now.
"Hey."
I nearly gasped at the sudden voice I heard coming from the entrance. Sitting up straight, I noticed Camilo leaning against the door frame. He looked down at me with a crooked grin, hands in his pockets.
Well, not so boring when he's around.
"What do you want now?" I groaned.
"I was thinking since Mirabel's gone, we can look for Isabela together? And maybe we can chat on the way." He suggested, crossing his arms.
"And what makes you think I'll agree?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at the man. He looked me up and down. I almost had a heart attack, thinking he was checking me out.
"You seem pretty desperate for something to do." He said. I chuckled, moving a strand of hair behind my ear before I looked back up at him with a grin.
"So, where should we start looking?"
We decided to look around the village, so that he had an opportunity to talk to me as we walked. But just as I stepped foot out of the casita, I noticed a flash of purple at the corner of my eye. Looking to the left, there I saw a determined looking Isabela wearing a dark cloak. using her vines to help her climb down her balcony, as she made her way to the side of the house.
Camilo seemed to notice the same thing and tried to catch up with her. "Isa-!" I rapidly had to stop him from chasing his cousin as I grabbed his wrist. "What?" The man looked back at me with a puzzled look. I pressed a finger to my mouth, looking around to make sure no one was looking.
I then nodded, letting go of him as we rushed towards Isabela who had already reached the woods.
I had completely forgotten about my leg injury before I started running. With each step I took with my right leg, it ached like hell. After what seemed like twenty seconds, I slowed down after hearing something move through the grass.
"Stop, Camilo." I said, crouching down to hide behind a bush as he joined me. He looked down at my bandaged ankle.
"Are you o-?" I covered his mouth with my hand when I heard the sound again.
"I'll be fine, but shut up!" I whispered angrily before I noticed his cheeks turn a dark shade of red. Noticing we were only inches apart, I rolled my eyes, taking my hand off of his mouth.
"Found her!" Camilo whispered, pointing towards a cave. A very familiar one. Isabela stood in front of it, looking around as if she was looking for something. That's when I realized that this was the cave my family used to travel into the Encanto, and back to Bogota. Did she find out where us three went on Monday?
Squinting my irises to get a better look at what she was doing, a dark figure suddenly came at her and took her into the cave, leaving a trail of flowers behind them.
