It was quite obvious what the prophecy meant, so I decided not to question her about it. Especially since dinner would be starting. But from what I could tell, the magic was fading and Mirabel had to find a way to fix it.

Senor Agustin had kept the shards in his back pocket. I was uncertain that they would stay there, and if the night would actually turn out normal. We were definitely done for. Or maybe only she would be, I hoped.

My seat was in between Isabela and Mirabel. In front of me was a teenage boy who wouldn't take his eyes off me, though he was easy to ignore.

"The Guzman's and the Madrigals together will be so good for the Encanto!" Alma Madrigal claimed.

"Yes, then let's hope tonight isn't a horrible disaster!" Senora Guzman agreed as the two laughed.

"To a perfect night," Alma began.

"Salut!" Everyone at the table shouted all together and raised their glasses. I alas, didn't know I had to. I sat there in embarrassment hoping no one had noticed.

We began to feast. They served some kind of soup that seemed familiar to me, and passed around more food. Most people were speaking, but Luisa's eye twitched multiple times, her hand shaking as the used her spoon.

Camilo stared at me once again as I ate. Like he wanted some reaction from me or something. At this point, I thought he was mental.

As for Mirabel and Dolores, they held the most intense eye contact I've seen yet. Even when they were scooping food into their bowls they never broke it. I spoke to Isabela a few times, but she was now talking to her so called fiancé.

So I stared blankly at the drink they'd given me. It wasn't alcohol for sure, since Antonio had a glass of the same beverage. It was green, like the healthy smoothies you see those buff people drinking daily. When I took a small sip, I realized it was just some melon juice.

Yeah, this dinner has surprisingly been so uneventful so far that I just had to describe the whole drink.

"Avocado?" Mariano randomly held a bowl of guacamole before my face, which for some reason scared Mirabel as she looked at me.

"Yeah, thanks." I took the bowl and smiled at him before scooping some into my soup. I didn't know if I was supposed to do that, but other people were. So why not?

Looking back at Mirabel, she gawked at Dolores, who seemed to be whispering to Camilo about what she'd heard. Camilo looked back and forth at me and his prima, then shapeshifted a few times in shock. When he shifted back, his pupils were facing two separate ways as his jaw looked somewhat deformed.

I understood why, he was shocked that we actually figured it out. And, we didn't tell him about the fact there was something wrong with the magic.

Everyone looked at him with confusion and worry, but Alma Madrigal smiled and poured Senora Guzman another glass of wine.

"Camilo, fix your face!" Felix Madrigal whisper-yelled.

Isabela passed the water, blocking Mirabel's vision. She pushed the jug away as Camilo whispered into his fathers ear. Yeah, maybe it was best not to tell him about all this sooner.

The best part; Felix's eyes widened and he spat his mouthful of water in front of the Guzman's, and possibly even on them. I almost burst out laughing, but realized no one else was amused. I was not longer going to go for more corn, since he spat on that, too.

Mariano watched as his jaw dropped and his shoulders stiffened in alert. And I couldn't help but let out a silent chuckle. Camilo smiled awkwardly as his father covered his mouth.

"Mirabel-" Alma paused. Her granddaughter violently turned her head to the elders direction. "Ahem, the cream please."

"Oh! Papa, the cream?" She asked her dad. He laughed, his hands shaking as he handed a bowl to her. Mirabel quickly passed it to me, and so on. But Isabela shot us a confused look.

The room grew dark, and thunder erupted from Pepa's cloud. Mirabel gritted her teeth in stress.

"Hey," I whispered, lightly tapping her shoulder. "It'll get better. Chill out."

"Pepa, the cloud?" Alma stated as her daughter ran her hand through her hair to try and calm herself.

I felt something rumble under my feet. Mirabel must've felt it too when we both looked down to see multiple cracks in the floor.

Dang, so this is how I die.

☾︎

Basically, Mariano tried to propose to Isabela, Luisa couldn't pick up a piano and had a whole tantrum, Mirabel tried a little too hard to hide the cracks in the floor, now little animals are somehow putting the shards together under the table after stealing them.

Even with all the commotion, Mariano still continued on with his speech.

I noticed Mirabel looking under the table, about to do something. I stared at her in disbelief and shook my head. "Mirabel, don't you dare." I snapped.

"Isabela, will you-" Mariano was cut off once again.

"NO!"

Had no homework tonight and the night before! Happy remembrance day ^^
