I watched her carefully as Bill went over everything we had planned for the week.

Bowie had a little over a month left until the semifinals for the X-Games. Opting out of the second competition had given us more time to prepare.

But something was definitely off with her today. I assumed it had to do with whatever the hell had happened last night with Jonah. I didn't know because she wouldn't tell me.

When I went online to see if Jonah's socials gave me any hints---yes I looked him up---I saw that on his Instagram story he was at a bar with friends. It didn't make much sense to me but I could see Mia in the mix of the group.

And if I could guess, I would say that he left his date with Bowie to go with them. I'd have to ask her later.

The way she kept staring off into space and how her eyes were puffy and red in the way that revealed that she had been crying earlier spoke volumes.

I wanted him dead.

She was nodding and speaking with Bill while I stood off to the side, looking at the small number of people on the slopes and half-pipe.

"I think we should call it for today," I said, turning back to them.

Bill raised a gray eyebrow and blinked at me in confusion. "Really? We've only done 2 hours."

My eyes fell on Bowie briefly, noticing how she was fiddling with the gloves on her hands, not looking at either of us.

"Yeah, I don't think we need to do too much. It's a Sunday and we've got all week," I said casually. Because I could see the unsureness on his sun-weathered face, I widened my eyes at him and gestured my head toward Bowie. She was still not looking at either of us. I mouthed I think she needs rest.

And because I knew he could also tell that Bowie wasn't her usual cheery and talkative self today, he agreed. "Yeah, you're right. We'll resume tomorrow."

"I'm actually not going to be here tomorrow because I've got some press and interviews to do, so it'll just be the two of you guys," I said, noting how Bowie had finally looked up at me. "I also have a meeting set up for you tomorrow with my assistant so that she can go over some preliminaries for the competition and press." Her eyes were sad and empty, a slight nod of her head.

"Okay then," Bill said, trying to sound cheerful. He placed an arm on her shoulder and smiled. "I'll see you tomorrow kid...bright and early."

She nodded and wore a shaky smile. He gave me a nod and gave me a discreet look that said talk to her.

I nodded. "I'll see you in two days."

He said his goodbyes and headed off, taking his belongings with him.
