[ CHAPTER EIGHT: The Dreadful Word "Sorry" ]

3 DAYS AFTER THE ARGUMENT...

IT HAD BEEN A FEW DAYS SINCE THE ARGUMENT, Adrianna and Dahlia had not spoken since, not even a text was sent. The two hardly had any classes together so their ghosting game was on point.

"Hey Anna," Miguel smiled down at the girl, "Hi!" She smiled, the two were in the library, their usual spot to meet up outside of class.

"I was thinking..." Miguel started, Adrianna looking over at the hesitating boy. "Would you want to... go somewhere, like together?" He questioned. Adrianna's eyes widened, her breath hitching. "Sure." She nodded quickly.

The two exchanged looks, both awkwardly laughing at the sudden moment. "Anyway, I got us some more books on the formula we're using in Mr. Ramirez's class." Adrianna beamed. Miguel laughed in response before nodding. "Don't laugh, it's important to know many different formulas." Adrianna gave a silly stern look.

The library door had opened, revealing Dahlia. Adrianna's gaze switching back to Miguel, trying to avoid eye contact with her. Dahlia had the same reaction, quickly walking to the other side of the library to go towards a certain book section.

"You two still haven't talked?" Miguel asked, breaking the silence, Adrianna shaking her head, a sad look replacing the happy one on her face. Miguel gave her a sad look before looking towards the new math textbook. "Let's learn new formulas." Miguel joked, making Adrianna smile and nod.

Adrianna sat on her bed, taking in the messy floor and room. With the effect of constant arguing parents, and an argument with your best friend, she had lost herself. In a way, Dahlia was her other half.

Adrianna got up off the bed, picking up a few dirty pieces of clothes, putting them in one pile on her bed. Grabbing pieces of trash and throwing them away, placing different items in their designated spots.

Once her room was clean, she let out a relieved sigh, sitting laying on her bed, staring up at her white ceiling, the sun had started to set. It was a regular November evening,

Or so she thought.

Adrianna's door creaked open, a teary eyed Jacob coming into view, her eyebrows scrunch in confusion. Jacob was never really a crier, he was hard to read, just like her, but when something really bad happened, he'd cry. So whatever happened, it must be really bad.

Her heart drops for a second, "Mom and dad want you in the kitchen." Jacob hesitated. "What's going on?" Adrianna asked, "You'll— you'll have to hear their side." Jacob explained, making Adrianna even more confused.

Adrianna picked herself up, walking out of her room, and making her way into the kitchen. She saw one light source, coming from the dining room. As she walked in, her parents came into view, they sat on opposite sides of the table, her heart drops again.

"Sit down, sweetie." Her dad gives a sad smile, Adrianna following along the direction and sitting at the head of the table, looking at her parents back and forth. "Mom? Dad? What's going on?" Adrianna's voice showed nervousness, her voice shaking as she spoke. "We're really sorry." Her mother started.

Adrianna's heart drops, again. "Your mother and I," her father starts, they both take one hand for themselves. "... have decided to get a divorce." Her mother finishes. And there it was, the biggest heart drop of all. She feels her breath hitch, her heart stop, her eyes blur, her body freezes, it shakes, it wobbles, everything happened all so fast. So quick.

"We're really sorry." Her father apologized. That word. That stupid fucking word. The word that started it all and ended it all. The word that is constantly repeated and said for any inconvenience, the word that had been used to fix the biggest mistakes.

One word, five letters, one syllable, is used to fix it all, to fix the biggest mistakes, the smallest thing is used to fix everything that could ruin you and your life.
