Bookworm

It was early morning on a school day and some students were studying in the school library.

Ms Mackenzie, the school librarian was a nice older lady most of the time, but a stickler for the rules. Two students begin bickering over what topic to do for their partner project and begin getting increasingly loud.

‘Shh! No loud talking in the library!’ Mrs Mackenzie said sternly as they stopped.

‘Sorry miss…' they apologized. She shakes her head and starts stamping the returned books on her desk again.
As she stamps, a student named Colin brings up a book he’s returning. She opens it and finds yellow highlighter all through the text in a book.

‘Excuse me young man!’ she calls to Colin.

He turns around. ‘Uh, y-yes ma’am?’

‘Did you do this?’ she asked him sternly, pointing to the highlighted text.

‘Uh...y-yes...you see, I wanted to'- Colin began.

She cut him off. ‘While you can do that in books that belong to you, you may not do that to books in this library. Is that clear young man?’

‘Y-yes ma’am' Colin gulped nervously.
‘That’s one strike against you Colin Bergstrom. One more and I will ban you from the library altogether. Is that clear?’

‘Yes ma’am, sorry ma’am!’ Colin says as he hurries quickly away.

Ms Mackenzie shakes her head. ‘Kids these days have no respect for books. Don’t they know having a library card is a privilege, not a right?' she mutters to herself. She goes back to stamping. She sighs. Only two years to retirement she thought to herself. I’m really regretting giving up being an English teacher now. But my colleagues were like “be a librarian” they said. “It’ll be fun” they said. More like a nightmare.

A student named Emily sat at a desk and was looking through a text book. Suddenly as she was turning a page, she sneezed and accidentally rips the page.

Ms Mackenzie heard the horrible noise of a page ripping and her nostrils flared and she made a beeline straight for Emily who stared at her in horror.

‘S-sorry ma’am, it was an accident I...’ Emily began.

‘Emily Watson! This is your second strike in this library! You are banned! Hand over your library card this instant!’ Ms Mackenzie demands her.

Emily whimpers and slowly holds out her library card and Ms Mackenzie takes it.

‘Out!’ she points as Emily quicky grabs her bag and hurries out of the library.

‘Oh… you poor book!’ Ms Mackenzie says, as she picks up the book and torn out page. She sighs and goes to her desk and gets out some sticky tape. Kids these days really don’t know how to treat books well she thought as she carefully tapes the torn page back into the book.

After repairing the book and going back to stamping for a little while, another student came with a bundle of books and leaves them on the desk and quickly turns to leave.

‘Just a minute!’ Ms Mackenzie cries, seeing the book at the bottom of the pile is damaged beyond belief.

The boy, named Clinton, slowly turned in horror to see an angry Ms Mackenzie. ‘What…. is the meaning…. of THIS?’ She holds up the book, or what was left of it, with pages falling out of it onto her desk.

‘I’m so sorry miss, my dog got to it! I tried to take it out of his mouth but he wouldn’t let go and it just made it worse!’ Clinton pleads.

‘And then you try to avoid any consequences by hiding it? That’s even worse than destroying a book in the first place! An irreplaceable one as well!’ Ms Mackenzie replies.

‘Why is it…irreplaceable?’ Clinton asks.

‘Because this book is out of print! I won’t be able to get another copy in this library again! You will pay for this Clinton Green!’

‘Please don’t hurt me!’ Clinton replies.
‘No, I don’t mean physically, I mean you will have to pay money for this damage!’ she clarifies.

‘How much?’ Clinton asks.

’30 Euros!’ Ms Mackenzie states.

‘That much?’ Clinton gasps. ‘I’m afraid I don’t have that kind of money on me…’

‘Then your parents will pay for it then! But you are banned from this library! Hand over your library card!’ Ms Mackenzie demands.

‘Please no, I need to study here and take out books and use the computers here! I don’t have a computer a home!’ Clinton argues.

‘No, instead you have a dog who seems to have found an appetite for rare books! Not my problem Clinton! Hand it over!’ Ms Mackenzie replies angrily.

‘No!’ Clinton replies, defiantly.

Meanwhile, the window in Shadowmoth’s lair opens.
Shadowmoth grins. ‘Ahh, there’s nothing like the anger of a librarian out to protect the written word! Maybe I can use that anger to my advantage!’ He evilizes an akuma in his hand. ‘Fly away my little akuma, and evilize her!’

The akuma flutters out the window and enters her stamp she was still holding.

Shadowmoth speaks to Ms Mackenzie from his lair: “Bookworm! I am Shadowmoth. Are you tired of students disrespecting books? I can make you protector of all books in the library from these disrespectful students, giving you the power to prohibit them from ever touching another book ever again! All I ask in return are Ladybug and Cat Noirs miraculous! Do we have a deal Bookworm?’

Ms Mackenzie grins. ‘I will protect all books from all who will disrespect them!’ She transforms into Bookworm, complete with a dress that looks like it’s made of book pages.
She laughs evilly. ‘Hahahahaha! You’re banned Clinton!’ she says stamping him as another book he was holding falls out of his hands. He tries to pick it up but his hand is repelled.
‘I can’t pick it up!’ he cries.

Bookworm uses her psychic powers and picks him up with her mind. ‘Out you go Clinton!’

‘Woah!’ Clinton cries as he floats out the door.
Meanwhile, Ivan and Mylene were in a quiet corner of the library reading Hamlet together.

Bookworm shows up and stamps Mylene. ‘Bookworm says you’re banned!’

‘Hey! We weren’t doing anything wrong!’ Mylene protests.

Then she stamps Ivan. ‘You’re banned! Hahahahaha!’ and then floats away using physic powers as she continues to stamp everyone in the library.

‘I can’t turn the page in the book anymore!’ Ivan says, feeling frustrated. ‘It was just starting to get good too!’

‘At least we can still use our phones. I’ll just alert the girls to keep clear of the library with an akumatised librarian on the loose!’ Mylene says as she texts her friends a group text.

‘I’ll do the same with the guys’ Ivan says as he texts his friends too.
