I gulp at her tempting offer, feeling my dignity already crumbling at the deal that I might not only be getting a book for free, but also coffee with a pretty girl. A breeze of thoughts swirl in my mind, unable to place a finger on the luck that I've struck today. Entering Starbucks, the familiar caffeinated aroma infiltrates the air.
"Everything's on me." She reminds, "Get whatever you want and then.. we can sit down to get to know each other?"
Though still quite shaken from the unexpected series of events, I give her a hesitant nod, feeling like she wouldn't allow anything that wasn't yes for an answer.
"What do you wanna order?"
I don't even have to look at the menu because my order is the same thing every single time.
"Pumpkin spice latte, please."
She goes to queue at the counter to place the drink orders while I find a table for two at the back.
A few minutes later, I hear her voice cut through the bumbling atmosphere like blade through paper, "Sweetheart, what's your name?"
"It's Y/n!" I yell back without choice despite the judgement that shoots back from the surrounding customers.
She flashes a thumbs up and tells the bartender who looks a little too excited because he's serving her. Eventually, she walks over with the receipt and drinks steady in each hand. Settling it down on the table with an accomplished sound effect, she pushes my drink to me.
"I didn't catch your name earlier."
"Me? Oh, I'm H/n. My bad for not introducing myself first."H/n sips on what you assumed was a salted caramel cold brew, eyeing you suggestively.
"If you want any more books, just let me know. I'd be more than glad to splurge for you." She rests her chin on her hand with a sweet smile.
What is she? A sugar mommy?
